Yes,
But not as a rule and it's not paint. Like banana's you can pick them green so they will not spoil while on transport.

To insure they are the right color when they reach the consumer they get 'a rest' in a special warehouse.

Oranges get sprayed and banana's get banana-gas. Banana's have this amazing natural ethylene gas they spill that makes all banana's ripen in one go. Putting 1 ripe banana on a bunch of green ones will make them go yellow almost over night. Oranges is a bit different but they turn orange all the same.

This is believed to be an Urban myth but actually it is true.

I don't know where she got this from, but there obviously isn't enought spray paint in the world to spray all oranges organge. They grow on tress, they are gree when they are not ripe and turn to their color orange when they are ripe. If they were spray painted orange i hope you know they would look different and have a different feel to them. Then the sparay paint can also probably poision the oranges in taste. So no what she said is nothing true.

Go to Florida and you'll see that's not true. You can drive through an orange grove and see thousands of ORANGE oranges on the trees. Your friend doesn't sound very smart, maybe you should find a new one.

It's true that oranges are really green until they ripen, then they turn from green to yellow to orange. No spray paint involved.

Sometimes they are picked too green in order to get them to market without bruising, and are then washed with a food coloring to make them appear more orange than they really are.

Go organic -- a little more expensive but if your orange is orange it's really orange!

Hey, think yourself - buy an orange and scratch off the top layer of the skin - you won't find anything green.
