I don't understand how they can believe that. I mean does their god cause them to get horny and to go have sex? Do they sit in the couch and suddenly god gets in their head whispering softly "Yes, you are horny, you want to do it, yes indeed, I want you to have do coitus, right now, because it is my will that you have a child. I am the Lord!" Is that the bottom line?

OH HI Well I actually believe that too. There is a never ending debate over how much of what happens is because of our free will and how much is because of God's sovereignty. Just do a search on the two phrases and you will see.
The Bible teaches that just as God controls the seasons, He can "open" or "close" the womb -Genesis 29-30. (Give fertility and infertility.) The Bible also teaches sexual responsibility: only have sex with your husband or wife, and in that context the children are an awesome blessing.
I believe that God has a way of being sovereign (all powerfull all controlling) and still allowing people to make choices, mistakes, etc. Only God can be all powerful and still make us able to make choices. No tyrant or totalitarian dictator could achieve that so perfectly.
I have 2 beautiful children (I'm married) and I know when they were concieved, because I know how to tell when I am fertile (just look up "fertility awareness"). But still I know the children are from God. He made me fertile, He made my husband fertile, God brought my husband and I together. Even if we had tried to prevent the babies, He could have still made our birth control fail. He caused the babies to grow inside of me. He strengthened me and the babies during their births. He could make us infertile at any time. He allows misscarriages just like He allows born people to die. It's a part of life, and trusting that God is in controll of life is an important part of life, too.
Are you a parent? For a parent I think it is more natural to believe that the children are gifts from God, because then you see how perfect they are for you, and how they have changed your life. I have 5 brothers and 2 sisters. My mom has had several misscarriages, also. My parents are so happy with the children God gave them, they see the family as being a perfectly complete gift.

There are people who do believe that, not only how many children they have but God controls anything and everything down to the smallest detail, like how many ants you happened to step on today.
Now as a Christian myself, I do believe that God is in control, and knows everything, I believe God has a plan for my life and that very well may include how many kids I may one day have. But God also gave me a free will, freedom to make my own choices, so I can choose what I want to do with my life.
I also believe that sometimes there are trials in life and misscarriages and loss of loved ones might might be apart of that, loosing my little brother at a very young age and recently my favorite granddad have helped to mold and shape me into the man I am today. Yeah it was tough, but I do believe that I can come away from those hard times better and stronger. And for that I am thankful.

I believe in God, trust God, obey him and seek him. The Bible says that the steps of a good man are ordered from God, To say this means that when you truly serve God, your destiny is controlled by him. For all GOOD things come from God. It is a trut issue. It is an obedience issue. Keep your life aligned in his word and everything will not always be like skipping through the valley, but he will be with you THROUGH the hard times..Through is the opperative word.

then how is this possible.,..everybody goes on how child contraceptives are 99% capable of preventing children???
1) I was born with a condom appropriately used
2) my sister was born with a sponge
3) my younger brother was used with birth control pills
4) by youngest brother was born using an IUD..
all of us were able to get through birth control? that is pretty impressive...looks like we were supposed to be here...
that said, My wife had a miscarriage in 2002 she was 3 months along...whether my wife want to go into all of the religious meanings ...should we worry if our child that was born in 2005 was the same "spirit" of the child that was miscarried in 2002? I mean..whatever...it is immaterial...if you think so..that is fine..if you don't think so..does it matter? I think move on is what matters...most of this is between husband and wife anyway..

I can only speak for Roman Catholics, we believe that God alone has the right to decide life or death as He created all life and all life comes from Him. Miscarriages are something that occurs for reasons only God understands. I have had miscarriages and a full term stillbirth and though sad I accept God has His reasons. Somehow these experiences have brought me closer to God.

Possibly, because their belief system was handed down to them by their families. Many people do not question that, out of fear or ignorance. They just blindly "believe".

They believe it for the simple reason that it takes the thought and responsibility out of their hands.

because highly religious people have long ago abdicated all intelligence and reason. they only know what "god" tells them. or in other words whatever crap the guy on the pulpit feeds them.
