It depends on how much you have really. Go to Wal Mart or someplace and get some plastic storage boxes with lids. That is what we keep things in that we just want to keep for our own reasons. The boxes seal and keep everything in good shape.

If you have large collections of things, start by shrinking your collection. Only keep your favorite 5 things out of each collection. Or pick your favorite collection and keep the whole thing and get rid of the rest of the collections. With pictures, only keep your favorite 5 on display or get a framed album and display it to save room. You should do full room length shelves around the top of your room to create a hellava lot of "display" room. For things that you think are memorable now-do a reality check! I just threw away roses from 1999 and prom corsages, and movie ticket stubs and homecoming mums, etc from high school b/c I was like you! Then, recently, I woke up and realized how CraZy that was to keep those things! They were just CRAP. I thought those were memeories and my way to hold on tho them. I still have the memories and the pictures of the memory is worth enough - I don't need every little peice of it! If you had a fun time at Disney World, you don't need to keep the mouse ears, your ticket, the pictures, the souvineers you bought and all the crap. Pick a few items. Your stuff will be more enjoyable to look at when you can actually SEE it!

I have the same problem. Take pictures of some of the stuff and throw the thing away. Keep just a corner of a favorite old blanket, or a pocket off ashirt.See what other ways you can come up with to condense.
Don't be ashamed of being a visual person that has to have their stuff out where you can see it. Try to put things together where it looks good, similar colors or shapes, and use the stuff as a decorating element.

u have a pack rat mentality i was the same way when i was young but remember in order to have new stuff u have to get rid of the old stuff. something good would be to sell some stuff on ebay and make money off of it. you could also give some stuff away to people u like then u can see them sometimes and take pleasure in knowing they are going to use. but then there is the storage idea where u can look at it and maybe one day pass it on to your own children. but to much clutter is not good. it can be a fire hazard and takes a long time to clean and dust. if u have a lot of knick knacks imagine how long it will take to move everything and dust it to make sure your room is emaculent. ur just going to have to get the strength remember life is not from material pocessions.

There is a show on HGTV , called Mission Organization.. It really teaches you how to organize... I would in your case , have 4 boxes... Jan- Mar, Apr- June, July-Sept, Oct - Dec.
I would fill everything into each of the boxes , maybe categorize the boxes, or do it randomly.. then each quarter year I would replace what's in the room with the next box.. It will be a treat to set your things up in the room.. maybe add something new to each box that was gift wrapped, so there would be a surprise gift to open

Start out with storing them. Put some in a plastic tote and put them out of sight for a while and see if you miss them. If not, you are doing well in your choices. As you store more of the things away, you will run out of storage space. That is fine. You will be able to chip away by having a garage sale or sell each item piece by piece. You profit, you save space, you eliminate clutter - you win!

everything in life carries a memory. the older you become the more attached you become to old memories. so keeping old memories is important. when is a memory considered old and when not? old is roughly until your 25th-30th birthday. things thereafter have less importance because most of the time they are repetitions of previous acts. not necessarily boring though.
so keep your old stuff (but make sure ot throw away those absolutely useless things).

Youre definitely allowed to keep some of them, at least.
Give some of it to people who would appreciate it. Finding the perfect recipient can be an experience for you. Start with items with the least sentimental value. You just might stumble into more treasures in the process.
