There are several different brands on the market, but the key is a boot with comfortable fit and ankle support - meaning it should be at least above the ankle. Padded inserts work wonders, but if you're going to use them, make sure you have the inserts with you when you try them on. A comfortable boot will feel tight and cramped once you add an insert as well as your foot.

If you are going to be running across terrain vs a track then I would recommend something something that has some water resistance (for water, mud, and they flick off dirt well) vs any old running show. I read an article on somebody recommending shoes for tough mudder event and the warrior dash. The two he mentioned were the New Balance MT 1010 Minimus and the Salomon Speedcross 3. Having the shoes that long could have allowed the inside soles to wear out or maybe they didn't have the proper support to begin with and it really showed when they were worn in. Usually the shins and calves start hurting because of the "unusual" strain you would be putting on them to compensate improper support. Hope this helps, -Skipp

bare feet is the best... when u wear feet for long distance you get blister... but with no shoes at all you never get blisters and you get your feet well aerated.
