It is hard to watch your kids grow up, I'm sure! Perhaps this will be an opportunity for you to do something for yourself, though! Did you ever want to go to college or want to go back to college? Is there a hobby you want to pick up? Schools can always use volunteers--even if it isn't in the class of one of your kids! (As I teacher I know it often works better if parents volunteer in a class their child isn't in. It prevents the child from being a show-off, being disruptive, and sometimes really changing behaviors to get extra attention from the parent in the room. Of course the child will want you in their class once in a while, but depending on the child, it can sometimes be more work than help for a teacher if the child doesn't learn to act appropriately.) Anyhow, I would really recommend doing something for yourself! If you enjoy scrap booking or writing, start writing some journals for your kids to look at about their lives as kids or put together scrapbooks or photo albums (with captions!) for them. Above all, try to have fun!

I am the mother of 6, ages 4 to 22. I went through what you've described every time. My 4 year old is going to head-start this fall. Even though it bothers me that she will be away most of the day, I know that she will gain alot from the experience. This is a good time for you to take stock of you. What do you want to do that you couldn't while you were at home with the kids? I am going back to school so that when they are in school, I will finally have something positive for myself. My husband and I both feel that the whole family will benefit in the long run. It breaks our hearts when the babies aren't babies anymore but, this could be an opportunity for all of you to grow.

Go back to school or get a part-time job. Or better yet, get a job at the school.
