Software is simply any sort of program. Its a load of text which tells a computer how to do a certain thing. Every single thing your computer does is done by some sort of software.
Think of buying a computer game. It comes on a CD. The CD itself is hardware, in that you can hold it. But the program on the CD is software, something which you cant hold.

Things you can TOUCH are HARDWARE and things you cant TOUCH are SOFTWARE.....Take example of Pefume, the Liquid of Perfume is Hardware but The Smell is Software....and If you can see YAHOO on Screen....you cant Touch it....if you can, you are touching the Screen and Screen is Hardware but that YAHOO is a Software.
