Don't forget what you American Revolutionaries were like when fighting the Brits.
And as noted above, if you were invaded, you wouldn't do whatever it takes? I recall a very popular film in the early 80's called Red Dawn, seems to me the teen fighters in that movie took exception to being invaded too.
Now don't get me wrong, I happen to think they are terrorists too, but your question did require a response as to why some might sympathize.

Just the fact that the media has billed them as "insurgents" rather than what they are-terrorists-speaks volumes. I can't imagine why any non muslim (Infidel is what they call us) would sympathize. I sure as hell don't. All these touchy feely "how would you feel if some one invaded your country raped murdered your family and kids"whiners need to realize that THIS IS WHAT THE INSURGENTS WANT TO DO TO US!!! 9/11 was a warning shot across our bow. They want us wiped off the planet. They want women to wear burkahs and not be able to speak to any man that she is not married to. They want women to not be educated. They want freedom destroyed.
For God's sake, go hug a tree and let the rest of us get on with protecting the US.

Because the media refuses to educate the people on what the hell is going on. they are the first to show our mistakes but God forbid they show some coward cutting the head off of a American serviceman or that these people are killing more of there own people than they are us. If people where shown the truth, they would know. read the headlines... every day these cowards kill more and more of their own people. and the funny thing is that some of our more outspoken sympathizers do not realize these cowards would kill them as soon as look at them. but they will keep going to their tea parties and social events ,.... where the biggest concern they have is where is the Grey Poupan? May westerners do not realize.... even the Muslims that do not want to kill us , still hate us and what we represent. Freedom of expression and speech, allowing all citizens to vote and be educated..using toilet paper and not having to bow down to their god 75 trillion times a day to pray....I know I have been their and it is like going back in time...

How would you feel if someone invaded your country, killed your children, abused and killed your women, destroyed your houses, ruined your basic life needs (electricity-water-medicine.. etc) stole away your dignity and all that without any credible reason whatsoever ? I am against killing civilians in any form, but civilian Americans who chose to work in enemy territory in support of military are not technically or legally civilians anymore.
The French resistance are seen as heroes and yet they attacked civilian targets as well.
