There are contradictions and problems in the Old Testament, too, dear, and it not everyone that is not Christian is an atheist.

Though there is speculation that the book of Matthew was indeed originally written in Hebrew, the rest of the New Testament was definitely written in Greek. Remember that Palestine, including the Jews, were mainly Greek and Aramaic speaking as their primary languages. This is why the Hebrew Scriptures (old testament) was translated into Greek around 200BC. All of the quotes found in the New Testament which refer back to passages from the Hebrew Scriptures are quotes from the Septuagint (the Greek version of the OT).
i don't believe there are any contradictions in the Scriptures, even when translated properly into English. Though i do believe that we have a limited understanding of the Scriptures, and there may be passages which seem to be contradictions, especially when taken out of their original contexts.

Is He smiling at me or laughing at me? Is He laughing at me because I'm spending my time reading this when I could be doing something more productive with my life?
(Just a wee joke...)
I don't feel like pulling out Bible quotes to prove that it contradicts itself because 1) I can't be a*sed and 2) you can just tell me it's a mistranslation. For me the issue isn't the Bible contradicting itself but the Bible contradicting common sense. Whenever the Bible contradicts common sense it must, by default, be ignored. If we have free will and the ability to decide right from wrong, then that must be paramount over some book. I'm sure even the Christian God would agree with that.
Anyway, anybody who writes such a judgemental book that condemns, curses and kills people isn't anyone I'm interested in spending eternity with.
What about this: God isn't laughing at me, he's laughing with me because he's finally gotten the joke...

I disagree! I disagree! And this is my opinion:
The translation from Hebrew to Greek, or from Hebrew to English, is divine, too. And so are translations from Greek to English.
Any atheist would know that. I know it. Indeed, anytime anyone says anything about God, it is Him who speaks. Indeed, anytime anyone says anything about anything, it is Him who speaks. If He could write a book, he can speak through my mouth, he can type those words you are typing, he can do it all without a sweat. His shining face is our sun. His *caress* will make you his bride, and me, your husband. I am a sweet atheist. Devil is saccharose, and NutraSweet, and it chews like acid on the folds of your brain, it rubs and it hurts against the Universal Wound.
HE IS WHO HE IS. That's as much as an atheist like me will ever know about God. "E" in Armenian. It means: "HE IS".
Have you found the Golden Walnut yet? What do you do with the X-Rays? Do you like it when people write "he he he"?

If the Hebrew Bible is so perfect, how come the English version is so full of mistakes and contradictions? You'd think after 2000 years they could have found a better translator.

I believe you believe that. Also, many atheists are ex-theists, so most of us are aware of the Bible, its many translations and "supporting" documents. I guess it seems a little odd that at all-knowing powerful God would not create something that absolutely could not be interpreted so differently by millions of people for so many centuries. Certainly, God would have known that countless people would have suffered and died while fighting over these translations.
P.S. I almost positive that God as defined in most of the theist viewpoints did not have sweat glands.

Still atheist. Holden Caufield doesn't exist simply because Catcher in the Rye says he does. The book makes no contradiction to his existance, and yet, he doesn't. Funny how that works. If you ask me, the bible is the most elaborate piece of fiction ever written.

No, I don't think he can write a book. Non-existant creatures do not write books. Something can't come from nothing, after all, don't you agree? Whew... that last line even made me shiver a bit at what a bastard I am. I must be tired. Time to sleep and recharge, more pearls to toss to the swine tomorrow.

Well, if what you claim is true than your faith is indeed strong and for good reason : you have absolute proof of the existence of God. But how many people in Europe and North America have had similar experience to your own?

you are quoting a book and you think this book contain truth.
someone may believe in a Harry Potter Book and ask the same question and forces us to believe it is truth, will you accept it ?
Your belief is not a proof that anything is true. You may believe anything.
Truth is not absolute in any book or with any person.
