What I mean is you know how you can go off certain foods because something bad happened the last time you had it (I don't like white chocolate because the last time I had it I threw up), is it like that?
My last girlfriend did the whole cute and innocent thing and at the time I liked that, now I'm weary of anyone who has those traits.

Is it just me? Let me know what you think.

Yes, it is easy to be put off by certain traits in people's character, but when meeting a new person you have to give them a chance and look at them as a whole, rather than just singling out a certain trait you don't like.

If that were the case I'd have written off a certain type of man and wouldn't have my two wonderful children!!

It's perfectly normal for this to happen and in fact is used in hypnotic suggestion (and if you read the books in dating too), the brain is very easily programmed to associate when storing memories, so will combine certain feelings with certain stimuli, usually the stronger the feeling or stimuli the better the bond.

As an example playing travel draughts always triggers a rather warm closeness feeling because my strongest memory of it was playing on a hotel balcony in Gran Canaria with my fiancee.

So yes personality traits will be tied in to past feelings and memories...

That sounded far too serious, so I'll have to go and do something daft now :)

Depends on the trait really. Personally would not be put off by similiar names; similiar behaviour I would be weary of but I would like to think that I would give each individual the benefit of a doubt but if they go down the same route I would put it down as experience.

Try not to tar everyone you meet with the same brush.

You coudol miss out on a lot of great opportunities, because you are unjustly judging the people you meet.

Give everyone a chance, use an open mind, and make decisions base on facts rather than biased emotions.

Hi,
Yeah I know what you mean, I used to go for the mean and moody type! After being poohed on a few times I refused to date anyone like that again!

Also do the same thing with names. if I dated someone called say "robert" and "robert" was horrible I wouldnt date another "robert" again!

If u understand!

What an insightful question. Yes I have experienced this before but I though that I was the only one to do so, I'm glad that other people have had this experience.

I think that it is just a survival mechanism that people employ to protect themselves even though it doesn't make sense.

i know exactly what you mean. i'm the same myself. can i tell you something though...always beware of the cute innocent ones. they are usually the most dangerous, there's nobody in this world all cute and sweet. its a front.
stick with the way you feel mate.

you're naturally probably going to like similar types of girls. i don't know what traits you mean. if it's looks, then no, you can't go off those, you're going to be attracted to cute girls still. if it's personality, then yeah you're going to be turned off when you meet a girl who reminds you of your bitchy ex. you'll be turned off by bad qualities she had, like maybe dishonesty or fakeness or two-facedness, but cute or innocent should still be ok, because those are good qualities.
