it's funny how much these questions say about the inquirer. i've read a few of these now and I'm learning more about people than I think I'm giving out answers. In any case, as some have mentioned, it seems that you may have a slight case of "i'm too smart for all these dumb guys" syndrome. Which may actually be the case, I don't know. But I do know that having that kind of attitude will just lead you to more frustrated moments of silly questions like this one.

I assume the guys in your peer group are the type to get offended, put off, or feel challenged by an assertive female. That makes them weak, shallow, vulnerable, and prehistoric personalities.

The best thing you can do is change your peer group. Find the progressives. That, and take your attitude down a notch. I understand the hostility when confronted with backward views and low IQ's, but rather than try to change what you're dealt with, go seek what you're looking for. I bet there are plenty of guys out there somewhere (else) that would love to entertain your brain.

I dont think MOST guys are intimidated by these girls. Rather, they are not attracted to them bcoz these ppl are usually so full of themselves. Rather than be a fun person to be with they stick their smartness and independence in peoples' faces. They are already on the defensive.

Also they mistakenly think that financial independence is a substitute for emotional well being. NO.

In a nutshell: not intimidated per se, but put off!

The guy that gets offended/intimidated/uncomfortable when a girl tries to pay for a date is probably just caught off guard and wants to be polite. They also probably just think it's tradition for the guy to take a girl out.

Other than that, they probably think the smart, independent girls are out of their leauge.

Men do have fragile egos, we then to think we are in charge. So when a woman crosses over into that territory some men feel in-dangered. Of course if the man feels secure in his position in life then their egos aren't so fragile.

I happen to like strong women. It seems that only Andy Rooney and I think that Martha Stewart is sexy. A great body is something nice to look at, but have you every tried carrying on a conversation with a woman's breasts? They only have two answers (left and right). I like a woman that has a mind, and I wouldn't fell bad if she offered to pay once in a while.

Not all guys are. I for one like smart and independent woman. I use to date them all the time before I got married. You just need to keep looking for the right man. Good Luck

The same reason that "nice guys finish last"...because most heterosexual desires are driven by the basic notions that men are dominant and women are submissive. Variations from this "norm" cause discomfort and create limited opportunities for the parties involved, but doesn't mean that reasonable partnerships aren't possible.

it's not just men that are intimidated also women don't like smart women and say derogatory remarks.

I had a friend that graduated Yale as a neurosurgeoun and she couldn't get a doate unless she told guys she was a waitress.

When you say guys, are you referring to the 3 or so billion of us? Don't generalize. You just haven't met the guy who will appreciate someone who can make them think! And let me assure you, we, the ones who are not intimidated and who fancy a good "contest"/"intelligent debate"/free lunch... we are out there :D.

Because they think they're smart and independant. If a chick is truly smart and independant, why would she want a boyfriewnd?
