I have a furry medium size dog, who gets ticks once in a while, I noticed a tick above my ear when washing my hair, and it is embedded into my scalp, and I need to figure out the best way to get rid of it.

Dam that. Go to the doctors to get it removed. That has to hurt.
Good luck

The best way to remove a tick is to pull it off gently, leaving the tick and its mouth parts intact. This can be difficult because some ticks cement their mouth parts into the skin. Every effort should be made to remove this cement if it does not come out with the tick. Applying heat, alcohol, petroleum jelly or fingernail polish to an embedded tick is not effective. The following is the recommended procedure:

* Use blunt curved tweezers or a thread.
* Grasp the tick as close to the skin surface as possible and pull upward with a steady, even pressure.
* Do not twist or jerk the tick because this may cause the mouth parts to detach and remain in the skin.
* You should pull firmly enough to lift up the skin.
* Hold this tension for 3 to 4 minutes and the tick will back out.

# DO NOT squeeze, crush, or puncture the body of the tick because its fluids may contain bacteria.
# Immediately dispose of the tick. If you have any concerns, put the tick in a plastic bag and freeze it. If you get sick you can take the dead tick with you when you see your provider.
# Immediately wash your hands and the affected area with soap and water.

Tick On Scalp

some folks use a lit cigarette to burn it, some use nail polish remover on a Q tip. Whatever you decide, I'd have someone do it for you because it's in an area where it would be difficult for you to see and easy to miss a piece when you grab the tweezers to pull it out. Another suggestion...quit sleeping with your dog...you could have gotten that tick in a lot worse place. Think about it.

Use a product called Quickstart. Put it on( it will paralyze the tick so it will let go) Then use the tweazers. Then put the tick in a pop bottle and throw it out. DONT use anything that will burn you!!!

You must burn it off with a hot object, like a cigarette. The tick will fall off. If you pull it off the head with pincers still embeddid into the skin will stay behind and cause infection. Don't burn yourself now! Good luck!

Have your owner light a match and right after it is blown out place the hot match on the tick and it should release. If it is under the skin completely, tell your owner to take you to the vet!

Match and tweezers. You don't want the head to stay in and infect you. Keep your dog cleaned up/treated at all times, as well as inside and outside surroundings.
