At the mo I am doing some stomach exercises. And its really slow but these things take a little time!
My question is Does your waist get smaller (slimmer) with doing sit ups?
I would of thought through logic this is so but I would like the answer off other people please

The older you get this seems to be false. I think that if you want a slimmer waist, then sit-ups alone is not going to do the job. You can have a six-pack, but it will not show if your waist is covered in fat. A diet and a good Abdominal workout three times a week is probably best. Something that hits the Ab's at every possible angle like three set's of the following:
1) Sit-ups
2) Broomsticks (waist twisting)
3) Crunches
4) Leg Raises
5) Left & Right Obliques
6) Situps W/ weights

This along with a light diet works best for me.

You won't build muscle doing sit ups, unless you use extra resistance, think about doing tummy tightening and pelvic floor exercises, tightening the whole of your middle for a few seconds and then relaxing and repeat a few times, side bends are good, hold a couple of weights or shopping bags and bend slowly sideways do both sides, if you want to lose fat off your tummy you need to do walking, jogging, cycling, swimming anything to get your heart rate up for a while, think ACTIVE.

hello ,its a combination of other exercises, the small of the back hellp this too ,try lying on stomach ,hands behind head ,and lifting your head up,be careful dont forget to do warm ups!!! just go library get a good book, the stomach is a combination of muscle groups there are 4 exercises ,which touch all these groups, and the lower back is another ,running is the easiest ,get an mp3 player and go for it !!! you can go on and on with answers for this question ,i was the same ,sit ups alone will make it solid ,but to see it ,you have to burn fat!! good luck

It will only get smaller if you lose weight, doing just stomach exercise wont make it smaller on its own unless your doing hundreds and hundreds and really building up a sweat and getting breathless, you should try running or lots of walking or cycling to make you shed the pound. your stomach will just become firmer and less flabby from doing sit ups.

If you are only doing sit-ups, then no, it wont, as you are building up the muscle, but not getting rid of any fat (if you have any). You would need to be doing cardio work too, eg running, cycling.

I would also recommend different types of sit-ups, to work different areas, and make sure you are doing them properly!

straight stomach crunches with only do your muscles at the front. do the ones where you lift then twist to the side to nip your waist in...they really do work! don't give up!!! but be careful with your back!
