The telephone system is designed that ONLY the caller can end the call. Between landline calls, the other party can hang up the phone, but if he picks it right up, the circuit is still alive. The "call" only ends when the caller terminates the call.

If the cell phone is involved, the cell phone systme is designed that if one party drops the call, the system detects it and cell call is terminated. This is done to conserve the channels.

Never ran into that before, usually a cell phone automatically disconnects when it hears the click, end of call confirmation.

thats the way its always been, if you dont hang up your mobile and then pick up the land line phone it will still be connected, same thing if someone calls your land line from another land line if they dont hang up you can pick it up and they will still be there.....................usta happen to me my friend would leave their phone off of the hook after i hung up with her, then i would go to make a call later and i couldnt because her phone was still connected, and she wasnt around :|
