how can we get people to understand that it is rude to talk so loud on their cell phones in public places?

get your phone out, put yourself in close proximity to the loud person, pretend to have a conversation with someone on your phone, and say really loudly "hey bob can you hear me? are you sure? I think everyone in this room is being forced to listen to our conversation because I am talking so loud" if that doesn't work, tell them to shut the hell up!

That has to be a million dollar question!!! did u ever experience an Indian talking over his cell phone? they not only shout at the bloody thing as if talking to mars, but they talk without a single break between words....that is the height of annoyance plus u'll get a bonus headache...

That can do one of two things, it can make them painfully aware that they are making extra effort to be loud and obnoxious and thereby, discourage them or it can make them become even more obnoxious so that people who are responsible to enforce laws in the public places will be forced to take action to remove these noise nuisances from those places so that other, more considerate people can enjoy public places freely.

What I do is answer them back. If there is a question, answer. If it's just conversation, add my two cents into that conversation. This will generally make them look at me strange then I simply say, "oh my, I thought you were talking to me!" or "your voice carries so well, have you ever thought about being an auctioneer?" Simply invade thier privacy like they are invading your own. This works well in the check out lines at the stores!

I didi this once and it worked.

Start enacting that you gor a call and start speaking loudly near that person. make sure you are louder than him/her.

and once you know he is irritated, start to lower you tone and get back to normal. He/She should have realised it by then.
