I think the military is good. I think the military is vital for any country. I think every man and woman who serve their country should be commended! My husband has served 19 years this month in the USMC. I am extremely proud of his career choice, proud of the American he is and what he stands for, proud to tell our daughter her daddy is a Marine and proud of how his knowledge has influenced and helped young adults turn into the outstanding, proud, strong, individuals they have become due to joining the USMC (or any branch they join) and learning career and life lessons they will use once out in the civilian world. I am saddened that there has been losses of life in every branch due to the ongoings in the middle east. But, without our military, we would not have the freedoms we take everyday for granted and the ability to share our thoughts with others as we are doing now.

The military rocks! The government just can't figure sh*t out. Most of these kids are just in the military as a last resort...no jobs, no future...trying to get a steady meal and paycheck...if they could decide to go to war or not...most of them wouldn't go. Some are in because all the men in their family did. Others in trouble with the law have a choice- army or jail. Some just love America. There are those that sign up just to blow some heads off though... I signed up because the economy sucked (no jobs where I was at at the time, about to live on the streets) and I wanted to be able to go to college...it was the only way. I love my country most of the time, but I'd rather move than fight for someone else's beliefs. So don't go thinking everyone in the military is the same...everyone has their reasons, patriotic or not.

The Military is a necessary evil and generally the institution serves the nation well, despite certain instances where the Command has been sleeping with big business.

The propaganda line of people not supporting the troops however is with all due respect is a cheap shot, too often use to quail criticism of bad international policies.... And in fact the mud-hole in Iraq is such a policy. To argue that people who voice their opinion against such a policy is not supporting the troop is thus totally out of line and presumptive.

The troops go where the government sends them like it or not, and so long as it is established policy. However consider for example the death penalty. The prison staff has the responsibility of carrying out the will of the state imposing such a penalty, and like the military they are obliged to do so so long as it cannot be considered immoral. By your argument, the people should be against the prison staff for carrying out a death sentence, simply because the people you hold in question wrote petitions to the courts & State to re-examine the case based on new evidence.

Those who argue against a government policy have ever right and reason to question any government engaged in the taking of another life, and what troubles me are the people who are blindly against such questioning. That's how Hitler got as far as he did, by becomming the unquestionable furer.

Our military is NOT BAD -these men and women are courageous and truly patriotic; the big guns running the military machine seem to be self serving, narrow thinking, often foolish and routinely put our service people in no-win situations. Depsite our elected officials supposed purpose to be acting on the behalf of general consensus of the American people - something is terribly wrong. WE don't want our military involved in on -going civil wars around the globe in the name of "fighting global terroism" when they could be protecting our own lands and addressing really urgent issues in this country.

The military is great a great institution and should not be judged by the mistakes of one or two people who try to run a country that has the problems this one has. Each man and woman in the military has voluntarily put themselves in harms way to protect the freedoms that you and I live under each and everyday.

Just to point out a couple of benefits of the military.

I have 2 BS degrees and 1 masters paid for by the military.
I owe my career and my life to them and I owe the integrity and honor I have to them.

I assume you mean the US military since they are the ones accused of all the wrongdoing of late.
Our military are the most well trained, most politically sensitive fighters in the world. They have managed to balance power in dictator run societies. They have overthrown tyrants. They have ended senseless genocide. They, at their inception, liberated the colonies from an out of control monarchy. And you ask if they're "bad". The media from which most people form their opinions, fail to mention, on the nightly news, all the good and progress our military has achieved on a daily basis during the most recent conflicts they have faced in Iraq.

it is good... Unforunally not all humans can get along, therefore we set up what is ment to be as DEFENCE FORCE. Other counties want/need/both to take something that ussally belongs or has already been claimed by another country that country has the right to defend itself. Unfortunally some forces arent used in this. Fortunally most are used for good.

The US military has proved itself in Iraq as a murding, raping, abusive and facist army. Soldiers are on trial for those crimes, why is America silent on it?
