I learned about this practice from a class I took called the Cult Controversy. You would be amazed at what people do in the name of religion. In short this practice that girls of the cult Children of God used to convert males that were often meet at bars. If they had to have sex with these men to save their soul/gain a convert, they often did exactly that.

AshHeels I like your answer but by the end of you statements you make it seem so slanted. Is it not possible that there is some mutual like between the participants and that by allowing oneself to be sexually receptive to that attraction help open the other person up to a possibility that might not otherwise be considered? I know I'm being a devils advocate but my goal is to help people to critically think, not to merely spout to out a personal dogma. Anyway thank you for your more comprehensive answer.

I guess it should be clarified that this "Flirty Fishing" idea does not have to take place in the context of promoting the cult of the Children of God. I’m sure there were abuses that happened within its organization. Remember Children of God is just where the terminology originated from. But in the context of our personal beliefs can you imagine a possibility were you would become more open sexually? And not just with any old individual, but someone you had to whatever degree a connection with, caring for your potential lovers beliefs.

To expand your question beyond any particular belief, whether or not this matter is "OK" depends upon the nature of the belief. If you contradict the tenets of your belief by using "flirty fishing", and your beliefs aren't as flexible as Machiavelli (that is to say, your beliefs are that the ends do not justify the means if the means entail violation of the ends), then I would say it is not OK. Under any other beliefs, I would reluctantly say it was OK, at least in the scope of those beliefs. From a more rational perspective, though, it shows that one's "way of understanding" is of little substance if seduction and sexual bribery are one's most effective tools of persuasion

The "Children of God" was a Cult and was completely twisted. It
has nothing to do with REAL Christianity, or with the real Christian faith. People will often take a real religion and twist it around to create some sick sexual, and money powerful cult. Check out this link below on the Children of God. Any Christian would be able to tell that this is so far from Biblical teachings.
The Children of God is a disgusting cult, that uses Jesus name in their teachings. Thankfully, its so far away from the true teachings that the average person would be able to tell that its completely wrong.
Flirty fishing was just one of the very wrong teachings of the Children of God. As Christians know from the bible, it says "Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral."Hebrews 13:4. It also says not to be lustful.
Why would God want you to convert someone through sin?
God would want us to convert people through love, joy, worship and through showing people how wonderful God is.⥠God wants us to get out there and help people, give to the poor, volunteer, clean up parks and make the world a better place. I think those ways are better ways of showing people God's love than " flirty fishing"."Flirty fishing" is degrading to women, and sinful.

Religion is a rough & tumble game! In the name of religion, murder, torture, and all other manner of nightmarish activities were once considered necessary to 'save a soul'. It's probably still done in some more modern form now! So, "flirty Fishing" seems mild by comparison! But consider the poor girls!! Brainwashed and bullied, they are in it for the thrill, as well as putting food on the table!

Never heard of this cult, but I know a lot of Christians just like these women. But it is not our job to convert people to Christianity. It is our duty to plant the seed by letting people know about God and of Christ, but the converting is from the Holy Spirit.

mx3baby is correct. We do not "convert" people to Christ (or any faith), we inform them of the truth as we know it and the Lord will touch them to make a change in their life or not. People who are "converted" by aggressive means are usually not truly converted.
You cannot "save someone's soul" by sleeping with them. Only the Lord can "save" or accept someone into heaven.

No. No "Missionary Dating". It is wrong to date a person in an attempt to convert him/her to your religious belief. It is best if the males pray for men converts & females pray with female converts. It is best to have a chaparone & not to meet all alone in a private area with a person when you are explaining a religious belief to them. Take them to the church or temple or mosque & let them focus on same-sex people to pray with. If they are only interested in meeting a person to date-than do that-but do not use dating to introduce religion to anyone.

It's really not necessary to convert anyone to your particular faith. That makes your faith a matter of social conformity, which means that its more important to gain converts than it is to have a good relationship with the Divine.

It's not okay. This is like prostitution. Those so-called religions exploit women sexually just like a pimp would.

It seems to be common in all denominations. I've had more than one Christian woman try to convert me that way.
