I am a believer, and if some one ie: parents, wife, etc. asked me to change my belief, I wouldn't do it. Your faith has to come from the heart, and if you do not believe then that is your right and perogative. Otherwise, your just being disshonest. However, I do understand that you have great parents and you do not want to dissapoint them nor hurt their feelings. Just tell them you are still searching, and by accepting their wishes wouldn't be from the heart. Tell them you love and respect them, and ask them to be understanding of you.
I wish you all the best!!!

In my opinion, if they raised me properly I wouldn't have to give up atheism now would I? Besides, you can't give up atheism, you can only aquire misinformation.
You want me to bite though? Fine, I'll bite. No, absolutely not. Let's completely disregard the fact that loving parents wouldn't force their beliefs upon you. Just no, I'm not going to start believing in god, barring head trauma.
Edit: Coud ask the same thing of anyone. If you think atheists are any more at the throats of christians than christians are at the throats of atheists, well... you're just not in touch with reality, brother. And no, I probably still wouldn't, because the only reason they could possibly want me to go to "conventions" whatever the hell those are, and stop being with people I enjoy being with is just as another underhanded plot to "convert" me. Why waste my time? Again, not something loving parents would do, anyway. What the hell kind of parents do you have?

IN THE GREAT WORDS SPOKEN BY THE 13 APOSTLE (cris rock ) also the black apostle in the movie Dogma, Beliefs are dangerous people die for their belief, WARS take place because of believe (Hitler, osama bin lading, jihad, the inquisition, Holocaust, the witch trials, not to mention people who sacrifice other people because it will apiece some sort of god. Hell put a bunch or very hard core religious people in one room and see the massacre take place, So being religious does not make you any better the other people obviously.. What's better the a Belief I'll tell you,, that would be an idea. you can change an idea and make it better. But a beliefs are so strong in people that they all think that their is the right belief which is impossible there for conflict happens. THINK ABOUT IT PEOPLE. thinking is a good idea.

I can't just start believing in something that seems unlogical to me out of the blue, not even if I thought it would make someone I love happy. So changing my religion would be like a lie, calling myself a Christian while there's really no faith behind it, and I wouldn't return my parents' favour and love with such dishonesty.

Seriously, were you on pot when you asked such a retarded question? First of all, why would you lie to yourself that way? Give up atheism? WTF man! Ugh, it's people like you who need to be kicked off Yahoo Answers. Gah! Think before you ask, man. Seriously, that was terrible! You need to think about what it means to be atheist. Giving up a disbelief? Again, WTF? Seriously, dude, common. Think. Just a little bit...think. But you made me feel better about myself, but not about humanity, that I am probably smarter than you. Yeah, I realize you're probably pissed at me and that my answer is a big fallacy because I'm attacking you instead of your opinion, but seriously THINK. THIIIINK. You're in the Matrix, man. The Matrix has you! Give it up! Stop believing in something you know is there! Stop believing in reality. Just...stop. Eh? Don't let reality fool you, man! Okay, as you can tell I am REALLY bored. Gah! Sorry to offend you, but that question you just asked was retarded. Well.....to be honest with you, I'm not sorry. I love pissing people off. Have an awesome night. Buh bye.

Straight answer you either believe or you don't only you can decide. If you are only saying you believe for what ever you are going to receive then is it really worth saying. But before you count out any religion I suggest doing some research, but in the books and in your heart.

That would not be being true to yourself.
You could tell them yes, because that's what they wanted to hear, but it wouldn't be true.
How can you just start believing in something that you never have done before.
It would be like asking a Cathlic to all of a sudden believe in Islam, or like asking a Hindu to abandon their beliefs and take up Mormon beliefs - they just couldn't do it.

yes i would.
if i know that the religion(christianity) is true
yes i would change. i would 1st try & find out about the religion 1st. study to see if it's the truth or not.
there's numerous types of religion & beliefs.
but i know for a fact that there's only 1 true god & that's jesus christ.
they're only doing it for a reason.
either get right, or get left.
see in the 10 commandments in the bible 1 of the commandments from god is that: thou shalt have no other god's b/4 me. nor any graven image(s)
just believing in a religion won't get you into the kingdom of heaven.
you have to accept the lord into your heart to live as your personal lord & saviour. ask the lord for forgiveness/repent of all your sins.
this is from the bible.
so i would change & accept only christianity.

Technically I'm agnostic, but to answer your question, as much as I love my mother I couldn't change something like that for her. How could I just suddenly decide that I believe? It is impossible. If you are Christian, would you be able to stop believing Jesus ever existed or was the son of God if someone asked you to?
