i know cancer is usually fatal, but what causes actual death?

Usually death is caused by the body organs failing or shutting down. This is caused by increased growth of the cancer cells that spread to other organs other than where the cancer is and and cause them not to function properly. Sometimes this growing or spreading of cancer cells and be slowed down or stopped with medication called CHEMO or by radiation. Other times CHEMO and radiation are not sucessful and the disease gets worse and leads to death.

My mother died recently. She had been fighting breast cancer for 8 years. She didn't die from the cancer itself. She went through several dozen bouts of cemotherapy (I think that might be misspelled). The cemo caused her immune system to lower and she became highly succeptible to various virusies and bacterias that a normal, healthy body is able to fight off. My mom came down with pneumonia and her lungs filled with fluid.
I found a site, the National Cancer Institute, that explains how people die from what types of cancer. I hope this helps
