Excess levels of gas may be fatal to dogs by causing blockages in the gastrointestinal system. Are steam-cooked beans, by causing the above mentioned symptom, potentially dangerous to dogs?

I have a alternative medicine book for dogs and cats and the natural diet recipes had beans in it. Beans have lots of fiber and are good for them in a natural balanced diet. I used to make their dog food for them, when I had the time.

Anything in excess can cause problems. If the beans are cooked in just water and with no salt or other additives, giving the dog a few would be fine. Fresh food when a dog is not used to it even in small amounts can give a normal amount of GI distress. So if you wanted to start giving him fresh treats, I would start off quite small with one or two.

Remember however that the dog food you are giving your dog is already quite balanced for his needs and table scraps and treats can throw off his nutrition.

We feed our 12 dogs vegetable treats, fruits and dogfood. Never have had any regurgitation or other side affects but they each only get a little bit.
