I think the most important thing is to trust him, to trust that he will not deliberately hurt you.
Learn not to take things personally.
Don't use sex to manipulate him into giving you what you want.
Be willing to be vulnerable with him--I say 'willing' because being vulnerable is a risky thing--if you can simply be willing, this is a good first step toward rewarding intimacy.
Be a safe place for him. This means not judging him if he reveals part of himself to you, something you may not like.
Cultivate your own interests apart from him. This will make you even more interesting to him.
Admire him and let him know why you do, specifically.
Be willing to admit when you're wrong, but call him on his own crap, too (gently!)

Honestly, the above answers are good but if you really want to be a great girlfriend you need to be great in bed. Guys are one track minded.

You need to stop hitting on me and all my friends . We all know that you are wanting me but if you wanna be a GOOD girlfriend , you will have to tell your old B/F that it's OVERRRR. LIKE . . . . Just be yourself. If you try to be someone your not, he's not going to fall in love with the real you and trying to hard to be the best girlfriend ever may actually drive him away.
