I don't really see this that often. Certainly not enough to say "everyone". Let's not generalize, we can be better than that. Anyway, though, i have seen it. They're likely either insecure in their own beliefs, and think they can strengthen them by just assuming that everyone believes in god, wether they say so or not. Or they simply can't fathom it. They can't wrap their minds around the concept that a person can possibly not believe what they believe. It's worse than racism, really. I find it highly offensive when someone decides that they know what I believe better than I do. I simply tell them not to do it, because if they have the right to tell me what I believe, then I have that same right, and they certainly wouldn't like what I'll decide they believe.

Most people who don't belive an thesit don't understand the word. They get it confused with Agnostic. Agnostics don't know whether there is a god or kno and are skeptical about the whole "God" idea. Athesists do not believe that there are any gods. And no...atheism is not a religion. THe other reason alot of people feel this way is becasue of some of the athesit groups. I know quite a few athesist who go to meetings every week and discuss their feelings, similar to christians and other such yahoos who go to church. One defintion for religion is a cause, principle, or activity pursued with zeal or conscientious devotion. In being so devoted to your opinion, it might appear to some as though your are religious. And although, athesim is not a religion persay, most athesists are religious about their atheist feelings (to expand on the defintion of religion). I would say ignore most people...Why do you care what any one thinks. Keep in mind, no one has to like your opinion/beliefs and you don't have to like theirs....BUT you do have to respect everyone's right to have one. My hubby always says...Opinions are like a@@holes...Everyone has one, most of them stink and you can't live without one!

Because they feel the need to make you think like them. Religion is essentially, IMHO, a group of people that takes comfort from all believing and thinking the same things, spiritually. They can't grasp the fact that you don't need this. The next time they tell you you are lying, simply tell them to ask God if you are telling the truth or not.

Because humans as a whole feel they need the answer to the BIG question, "Why am I here?"...Many feel that they get the answer to this question through the bible and believing in something bigger then they are and use it as a coping mechinism, therefore they feel that you have to believe in something and not believing in a higher being somehow makes you not in the loop or normal, but in the words that I thought of one night while expeirencing a higher power ;-), "What is normal?...And how do we know the person that coined the phase normal was in actual fact normal?...."

I guess it's because by saying that you don't believe in God, you aknowledge that fact that he exists, therfore you believe in God. OR at least believ in his presence. Wether you believe his teachings or his words is a different subject altogether. I think it would be more accurate to say that you don't belive in what the Church (or anyone else) teaches/preaches/says about God and/or who/what he is. OR you could say that you do not believe that God exists. I believe he does ,but that's my own belief and I am not planning on getting into a discussion about religion/theology, etc.

Most Christians have never read the bible and do not know what they are saying. They are like parrots who are taught to repeat the same verses, but have no understanding of what they are saying.

I find it interesting that so many Christians can recite what they think atheists "believe" when they can't define their own beliefs.

Experience shows that even the most die hard atheists end up believing in God at some point or other.

Because they are morons. No other way to explain it. Somehow the brainwashing is so bad they cannot comprehend being a decent person without being threatened. In my eyes that means they are bad people and are only good because someone makes them. Easy way to shun responsibility for being an asshole.
