This is actually a take off on an old Sam Kinson joke. If Jesus came back wouldn't he traumatized or at least offended to see the vehicle of his execution? I'm sure many wear the cross with good intention, but still, it's got to make you wonder.

im_no_cassanova states we should focus on Jesus' ressurection. If one were to wear a symbol to represent this could it be an empty tomb or maybe a less morbid choice, a flower, possibly a lily?

Melina you make a valid point. I'm sure if it was helpful to you Jesus would not be offended especially if in heaven all tears will be wiped away.

yes, a cross is a symbol of torture and so is the electric chair. People wear the cross for protection, they don't realize this was a torture method the romans used; to kill Jesus Christ.
Jesus is no longer crusified he has risen and he lives. He is at the right hand of the father preparing a place for all that believe in him that we may have eternal life John 3:16, Romans 10:8-13

Yes, it is exactly like that. Which is why, even though I am a Christian, I refuse to wear a crucifix. I do not need to wear a cross to remember what he endured and how he died.

The ten commandments read:

(4) You shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. (5) You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, punishing children for the iniquity of parents, to the third and the fourth generation of those who reject me.

The FIRST definition of an IDOL is...."An image used as an object of worship.". Yes, people see the cross as a "symbol" or something to represent the Christ, but I see too many people who hang on to that cross until it has much more meaning.

For me, I don't need it... don't want it. I follow the Risen Christ.

As for Galatians 6:14: But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.

This passage refers to the "cross he bore"...which is our sins and his sacrifice made, not the wooden cross he was murdered upon.

IEditted: If people want or need the wearing of crosses or need to decorate their churches with them... that is their affair and I am sure the Lord would understand WHY they do it. Just for me... I don't go there.

Nope. I wear it as a reminder of the sacrifice that he made for me so that everyday, I will never forget the price that has been paid, for me. I know Jesus, understands that, now yeah if people are trying to mock him by using it then, that might hurt, but that's just me, that's why I'm not him! Thank goodness!

As Christians, we are told to "boast" or to "glory" in the cross (Galatians 6:14). Of course it seems paradoxical; why celebrate the moment of our Savior's greatest shame? This, however, is the way of God's Kingdom. Jesus' greatest victory came through His pain on the cross. Therefore, we celebrate, we boast, we rejoice in that vehicle of death, as it was the death that brings all who believe on Him eternal life.

WHY REMIND YOURSELF OF HIS DEATH...ESPECIALLY IF HE WAS RESURRECTED? IS EASTER IN VAIN? WHY RESURRECT YOURSELF IF THE LARGEST CHRISTIAN RELIGION INSISTS ON FOCUSING ON YOUR DEATH???

wasn't the POINT of half of the ATONEMENT..the overcoming of the PHYSICAL DEATH...so that we can LIVE AGAIN???

The Other half of the Atonement was Christ's overcoming the Spiritual Death by taking upon himself the sins of the world that had already occurred as well as those that would still occur???
Now due to James 2...Faith w/o works is dead...so as long as we do our part then we'll be saved of our sins as well!
