Ever see a landslide? Take a look a clip of one and imagine being in the way. Now consider losing so badly that you may as well not have been in the contest at all. That's the idea.

In WA in 1945, two candidates in a political election were almost tied in votes. On his way to his party headquarters, one candidate's car was crushed by a landslide and the guy was killed instantly. Hence, people referred to his only opponent (who won by default) as "winning by a landslide". The term was misinterpreted by someone and it now means to win by a lot of votes.

Just joking.....but it makes sense right?

Maybe because a landslide is very huge, very fast, and demolishes everything in its path?
