I recall seeing the article in Dear Abby and it was due to an allergic reaction that was triggered by the mold growing in the batter.

Allergic reactions can be mild to severe with the most severe being anaphylactic shock which can cause your throat to swell shut then your heart to stop (this happened to a man that used to work with who ate peas in a soup and was severely allergic to it); however, if you have survived that there are usually not any long lasting after affects. If it is still recent, your esophogus might still be agitated and you should drink clear fluids and eat bland foods for a week to give it time to heal..

As you say you have seen the doctor and they have not found anything wrong, it could be whatever is bothering you is beyond their scope of training or experience. I was told that I had an ulcer and treated for that and when it didn't get better, went to another Dr., had more test done and found out I had gallstones. A lady at work had pains in her chest and thought it was her heart, but it found out it was kidney stones.

Keep a written record of when it bothers you and what you were doing or ate before it bothered you to see if there is a pattern. Go back to your doctor with this and request a second opinion, but don't give up! Best of luck to you!

bad pancake batter isn't going to give you heart pain, although it might give you indigestion which could feel like heart pain. If the batter didn't have raw eggs in it, it's probably not a very big deal, and even then, food poisoning is usually a question of just shitting and vomitting until it's gone.
If you have persistent chest pain, it could also be anxiety, so don't worry so much! Obviously, if you have chest pain, shortness of breath, weakness or pain shooting down your arm, a feeling of tightness in the chest, these could be more serious symptoms, and should be checked out immediately
