Bananas are the fruits of a herbaceous perennial, commonly called a banana "tree" but not really a tree. While the morphology is similar to a "tree", it is not the same. If I recall correctly, (not really sure about this) the difference is part of the banana plant's growth dies yearly, rather than being incorporated into the next year's growth like a tree, hence the 'herbaceous perennial'.

Yes. But "Banana Trees" are not really considered as trees because the structure is different. It is somehow called "plant" or something I don't know. But scientifically, the plants where bananas come from don't belong to the tree family.

No, Banana tree is not a tree... It is a herb and it is often mistake as a tree...
Herb:
a) A plant whose stem does not produce woody, persistent tissue and generally dies back at the end of each growing season.
b) Any of various often aromatic plants used especially in medicine or as seasoning.
Tree:
a) A perennial woody plant having a main trunk and usually a distinct crown.
b) A plant or shrub resembling a tree in form or size.

Yes. The leaves are used as a plate. The leaves when used to wrap Char Keow Teow is very delicious. The flowers can be eaten. The trunk is very good food to the elephants.

Yeah, that's what they grow on!
Just not in anmy area that gets frost, but they do have some house plant versions that don't get so tall.
They even have red bannan trees!
They are all over here in FL.
