Yeah, "mastermind", we liberated millions of people. Bad us. We should be ashamed. Where's all that oil we went to war for? Why is gas so expensive when we are stealing all the oil in Iraq?

Put the murderous Saddam back in power, and allow dictators to kill thier own people, and allow them to mass weapons and violate dozens of international treaties, and attack our military planes. No way should we respond to that. In fact, dig up Hitler, reanimate him, and give him back the European theater which he so bravely conquered, and allow him to finish killing all the Jews, so the Palestinians will be happy.

If you look at the history and social structure of Afghanistan I am afraid the answer that you will come up with is no, there will never be peace there, and there never has been.

Afghan society is built around the gun, tribalism and fuedalism and Afgahnistan has never been an ethnic or racial country but rather a collection of vastly different tribes held together by the geography of a region.

These tribes or ethnic groupings have continually fought each other since records began over anything from land to honour.

They have only ever stopped fighting each other when they have had someone else to fight who they recognise less, or who hurts them more. Hence their resistance to the expansion of the British Empire in the 1800's and the Soviet invasion in the 1970's and 80's.

Even then they have continued to fight each other.

The Taleban was an oddity and actually had its origins in Pakistan and simply took adantage of the lawlessness and fragility of the Afghan state to breed its fundamentalism and it ruled by fear and religious doctrine.

When it came down to it the majority of Afghans supported the Northern and Southern Alliances of other Afghan tribes (some of whom continued to fight each other) in the Western inspired war to overthrow the Taleban and Al Queada.

The west was right to oust the Taleban as they have proven to be the harborers of the people who are attacking our society through bombs on planes and trains, however we should not delude ourselves that Afgahnistan is going to become a western style democracy, with a 21st century outlook and economy because it never will.

Every household has an AK47 which is used to settle family and neighbourhood disputes, bandits still roam the hills, the main cash crop is Heroin and their version of football tribalism between United and City is to fire artillery shells at the next village.

Some tribes have allegiance and ethnic origin in Uzbekistan, some Pakistan, and others are Persians with an affinity with Iran.

The best we can hope for is that we can stop the heroin production, and deny the extremeists who would do us harm a breeding place.

Not in our life time - Afghanistan is the cradle of war. Afghans have been fighting non-stop (give or take twenty odd years of peace here and there) for over 2000 years.
After the coalition moves out it will be Albania's turn to attack.
