Amazing how much hate 'amfound2' has in her heart.

Hey C.C. glad to see you here

St. Polycarp of coarse! His example of standing on a firm foundation despite his circumstances (and his age) are unparalleled. A true man of humility and faith.

St. Jerome is a close second. He had a great sense of humor. Well, at least I think so.

My favorite would be Martin Luther. However, he was born in 1483 and died in 1546. So I don't think he falls in between the years you requested. But he is my favorite because he was brave enough to stand up to the Catholic church at that time and nail the 95 Thesis to the door of the Wittenburg Church (I believe that is correct.)

My next favorite would be Joan of Arc. I like the fact that she stood up for what she believed in. And in those times, that was almost dangerous for a woman to do. However, I'm not sure if she falls into the same time frame.

As a protestant, my favourites have to be the popes, they are a wonderful example of what a farce the RC religion is.
24 popes who held office between 872-965, 7 of them died violently or under suspicious circumstances! 5 popes were assinated in office or deposed and then murdered. John VIII the first pope to be assinated, was poisioned by his own entourage; when the poision did not act quickly enough, his scull was crushed by blows from a hammer!
Both Stephen VII and Leo V were deposed, imprisoned, and strangled. John X was deposed, imprisoned and suffocated with a pillow. Stephen IX was imprisoned, horribly mutilated by having his eyes, nose, lips, tongue, and hands removed and died of his injuries! two other popes died in circumstances strongly indicative of foul play.
Hadrian III was poisioned, and John XII was beaten to death whilst in bed with another mans wife.
Pope Stephen VII so hated his predecessor pope Formosus, he had his body echumed after decomposing in the grave for 9 months, had the rotting corpse dressed in papal vestments and seated on a throne whils pope stephen read the charges against him! Formosus was found guilty, all his elections as a pope was declared invalid, all his acts as a pontif were annulled, his corpse was stripped of its vestments and the three fingers used for consecrations were hacked off! He was then beheded and buried in a paupers grave!
NOW IF YOU BELIEVE THAT THE POPES ARE CHOSEN BY A SPIRIT, IT IS CERTAINLY NOT THE HOLY SPIRIT - IT IS A SATANIC SPIRIT! This is a false religion! The mother of harlots and abomination of the earth.

Paul is my favorite early Christian, as he is the author of Romans. It's an amazing book; the most powerful in the Bible, in my opinion, for the way it contrasts man and the Lord.

Justin Marytr--because he knew the Cross of Christ was central to all life....." the human form differs form that of the irrational animals in nothing else than in its being erect and having the arms extended. And if the torso and arms of the human form procalaim the cross, so do the nose and eyebrows of the human face"

I would have to say Paul is one of my favorites because he perservered and he reached many throughout his life time and because of his conviction and his love for his father in heaven he was put in prison and eventually put to death. Paul was a wicked man before he knew that there was a better way to live and to love and on his journey to seek the truth he shared his knowledge with others who eventually followed him as well.

Polycarp -- because he showed great knowledge of the truth, humility, wisdom, faith and strength when he went up against the early heresy of the Roman Church, and then again when the Romans captured him and put him to death.

St. Irenaeus.

He stated that the glory of God is a human being fully alive.

If humans are the summit of creation (Gen 1), then for us to be "fully alive" in God's love is the greatest act of praise.

James, brother of Jesus. He didn't try to change what Jesus taught the way mathew and paul did.
