people always seem to prefer to hear from an "expert" regardless of the subject.
but you know, maybe its a good thing actually, there are enough interpretations of the bible out there as it is, could get very scary if everyone was out there interpreting it for themselves

A real minister provides a service of the highest order. By providing guidance on how to apply doctrine to our everyday lives. A good minister or pastor actually makes a difference in our collective psyche because we realize everybody is searching for the same answers to the same problems. So they get paid for that job. All CEO's at the moment are over payed.

First off people do not "pay" for Ministers to read, preach or spread the word of religion. People of most religions make monetary offerings in order to make it possible to hand out free literature, have hymnals available, religious study, (Sunday School) home comings, pay the bills of operating the Church.
The last I heard electricity, gas and water are not free even for Churches, Synagogues and Temples.
Second of all the common man can not understand the words, teachings, language and meanings of the passages. Rather the Christian Bible, Catholic, Baptist, Buddhism, Scientology or the Muslim Koran.
Ministers, Priests, Rabbi's and even the POPE have studied the verses and passages of their said religions for years in order to gain a better perspective on their meanings.
These so called clergyman of faith and/or religious Ministers do so in order to interpret the word of God. They make it possible for the laymen to comprehend the teachings of their perspective religions.
They do so by "preaching" reading, repeating and explaining the "word" of religion as determined by years of learning.
Thus does the everyday teacher in elementary school. They are here to teach, to educate and enlighten those without the training and knowledge of two plus two.
So if YOU had a better understanding of why we need Ministers of faith then I would guess that you would not have possed this question.

Ministers do much more than just read the bible. You should talk to a minister and find out what he does the other six days out of the week.

This is a rether vague question, but i will attempt to come down to your inteligence level to give you some sort of understanding. Before I address the money part lets talk about the Holy Bible a book of guidance, knowledge, and instruction from The GOD that gave you life. Because of your darkend heart you can't get past the talk of other people opinions and form one for yourself. When people are conducting any form of institution to be of assistance to someone less fortunate them themself whether it be a house or a palace money is required to keep it's order of business runing. Many people won't bother to read the Bible because they have already formed an opinion off of what their friends and family members have previously said. Do your self a favor and keep your money, but read the instruction that GOD has given for your life on your own. When you get to something that you don't understand post your question here and I will do my best to help without your money. When you get time read Hosea 4:6. B.I.B.L.E. Basic-instructions-before-leaving-Earth.

I agree. I think today's organized religions are not what was intended. We should read on our own and study in groups of our peers. Carry out the true word of the Lord and bring peace and love to the planet. Maybe people would stop judging each other so much.

They are paid because some people cannot understand the writings and the metaphors the bible use, so preachers and ministers read it to them in a way they can understand. and relate to.

I agree 100% with you!!! I guess most people don't trust their own understanding of the bible and so they think the minister is a know-it-all and they believe anything he or she says.

Yess but they preach there dogma to people they can't get that from the bible...
If they just whent and read the bibble they would have to interprate it themselfs and form a religion out of that..... and thats to hard for many people... they just whant to be told what to think.
It's quite a proven fact over histroy many people are happier being told what to do and what to think than having to think for themselfs.

Yup, makes more sense to me as well, considering how bigotted and ignorant of truth and science most of the ministers seem to be.
