When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not shouting "I'm clean livin'."
I'm whispering "I was lost,
Now I'm found and forgiven."

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I don't speak of this with pride.
I'm confessing that I stumble
and need Christ to be my guide.

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not trying to be strong.
I'm professing that I'm weak
And need His strength to carry on.

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not bragging of success.
I'm admitting I have failed
And need God to clean my mess.

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not claiming to be perfect,
My flaws are far too visible
But, God believes I am worth it.

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I still feel the sting of pain.
I have my share of heartaches
So I call upon His name.

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not holier than thou,
I'm just a simple sinner

Who received God's good grace, somehow!

Thank you for putting it like that. It's true. I remember DC Talk when they were big and on the album I have there's a monologue that says "The single greatest cause of atheism in the world is christians, who acknowledge Jesus with there lips but turn around and deny him by their actions. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable." We can't even hope for perfection but we can count on forgiveness from a gracious and loving God.

I like that poem and to answer the question part of it..

Holier than thou has always cracked me up...

Notice in the Bible God is referred to with Thy and thou because of King James English, not because it is an identifier of Deity.

Thy and Thou are also used when addressing people...such as Thou shall not...

So...Of course we are not Holier than thou when it refers to God or Christ etc. But, when it refers to people it would depend on whether said people are saved or unsaved. If they are saved, again the answer would be no...not holier...but if thou refers to the unsaved...then yes, by the provision of accepted grace I am holier than before...therefore..holier than thou. (when thou refers to my condition without Christ)

precisely how are atheists dogmatic? Do you even understand what the understanding ability? Atheist haven't any dogma: "device of concepts or tenets, as of a church," "a non secular doctrine it fairly is proclaimed as actual without evidence," "A coaching or set of teachings laid down by ability of a non secular team, often as component of the essential ideals of the team." Atheists might forget approximately approximately theists if there have been not some who attempt to tension genuinely everyone else to stay by ability of their regulations. faith has been the reason of misery, torture, dying, etc. for its entire background. there is not something good that comes from faith which does not exist without faith, yet there is a lot it fairly is undesirable approximately faith -- that dogma factor -- that doesn't exist without faith.

May the LORD bless thee, and keep thee:

May the LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:

May the LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.

Thanks for sharing this. It's true, Christianity did not make me feel holier than before, I felt humbled, our purpose is to glorify God not ourselves.
