If they are female (wahine), may I suggest you explore mother of pearl necklaces at the Aloha Stadium Swap (not swamp) Meet. There are a variety of designs available, the more popular and in vogue these days are those that depict or are inlayed with a hanu (turtle) design or motif. The mother of pearl is unique to South Pacific waters.
For guys (kani), you might look into shark tooth necklaces or fish hook necklaces. The popular ones are the fishhooks that are fashioned from water-buffalo bone. Or crucifixes sculpted from koa wood. The koa is unique to the islands of Polynesia which include the Hawaiian Island chain. These are also available at the Swap Meet. Design and quality will be factored into the final price.
Aloha and may you have a safe and pleasant journey.

You could get them a beach towel that has the Hawaiian Islands on them. But you should also go to the Swap Meet that they have every Wednesday's, Saturday's and Sunday's. Its held at the Aloha Stadium in Salt Lake. I'm sure once you go there and walk around you will find something just right for you friends. But just for your FYI...most of the vendors there sell pretty much the same thing so you won't go wrong if you buy one from vendor and you see something else you'd like at another vendor. Good Luck on your trip to Hawai'i. I hope this has helped you.

If you are bringing back that many gifts/souvenirs for your friends...this is what my kids (ages 12,14 and 17) did, we went to The International Marketplace in Waikiki (directly across from Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach Hotel) where they bought basically in bulk...bracelets,necklaces and T-shirts...the bracelets and necklaces are really cute and your girlfriends will love them(they are silver and made into Honu (turtle) links or Plumeria Blossoms,Star-Fish etc...(really cute) you can get 5 bracelets or necklaces for $15-20.00...they even have the equivalent bracelets and neck chains for your guy friends, different styles, and everyone loves the Hawaii Long board T-shirts...you can get all of these things all over Hawaii, so if you don't get them on Oahu, then pick them up on Maui...you can find them in Lahaina...it's just very easy when we go for us to get so many gifts at the International Marketplace because there are so many kiosks.~~Aloha~~E Komo Mai~~

i'm from hawaii, but i go to school in california. every semester, before i go back home for vacation, i am bombarded with requests from 'mainland' friends to bring back some hawaiian snacks.
that said, i would suggest chocolate covered macadamia nuts (especially the toffee and chocolate ones by the island princess brand), chocolate dipped shortbread cookies, lilikoi bars, kona coffee, li hing mui treats, etc. food is always a plus:)
aside from food, i would suggest going to the local swap meet or hilo hattie. they offer a bunch of unique hawaiian souveneirs for people of all ages.

My favorite thing is to arrive and go to the swap meet on wed or sat. it's like, 50 cents a person and there are some many things you can buy. T-shirts, jewlery, photo albums(uniue to HI), luggage, ect...
Also, go into one of the smaller towns and just visit and see what they have. If you haven't booked your hotel, look for a house near the beach it can be cheaper :)

CD ROMS or videos. $10-$20, go on a helicopter ride & they will make you a video w/ you in it & about 3 cameras outside the bird. Helicopter trip is a must. It is worth every dime. I think $100-$200 per person.

They have those calendars of Hawaii with the beautiful nature, etc.. You can buy them at a very low price at the Longs Drugs or at Daiei. Or Macadamia Nuts which you can buy at the same places.
