I was just wondering if anyone knew if the new system from Apple would be able to run AutoCAD 2006. Apple's advertisments say that you can run simple Windows applications such as Word, Powerpoint, etc., but can it run AutoCAD?

AutoCAD Anybody?

This strategy by Apple addresses the "classic case" of inability to adopt Mac. The classic case is this: I can run every piece of software I need natively on Mac OS X, except for the one I need the most.

For many in the CAD world, this happens to be AutoCAD. Yet, for others it happens to be programs like SolidWorks, CATIA, Pro/E and others. Maybe a user wants to use Autodesk's 3D Studio Max. All of this is possible now at native -- and very attractive -- speeds.

This isn't the same thing as native solutions for OS X. And that is what Mac users ultimately want. But for now, this is Apple's latest big move in its efforts to win the hearts and wallets of folks frustrated with the Windows computing experience.
