First you need to figure out why are AREN'T sleeping well. Pain? Stress? Hyperctivity? Other medical cause? If you aren't sure why you can't sleep, you need to discuss it with your doctor and see what's going on. Usually it means you've got a chemical imbalance in your brain and taking certain supplements will help correct it. But you need to know the real cause to get the right treatment.

Change your whole life style. Sleeplesness is an indication of sub-concious worries and fears. Find a life without these fears or even mild concerns and you will sleep. Doctors cannot heal you with pills. Only you can fix the problem. It helps to be in a totally black room, silent and cool. Empty your mind and count backwards from one thousand, slowly, whilst decending an imagined spiral staircase into the darkness. Never try too hard and never lie in bed other than to sleep. Tony, insomniac for 30 years.

I have issues with this too. I find that two things help me. One is drinking liquids (that are not decaffeinated), warm milk worked too but not as a constant remedy. One other thing that helped is a good exercise time every other day.
I use to work a very stressful job and that kept me up at night and sometimes woke me up at night too. I tell you this as I tried these things and that helped me out a lot. I was able to stay at my job a whole year longer. What also helped me and sleeping was that I quit that job for a less stressful one and that might be something to consider.
Oh and I just have a habit of avoiding pills (if possible), natural remedies work better for you in the long run and have less side effects and longterm effects.
I found that sleep helps you perform better at your job, but when your job keeps you up, it can get to a no win situation. Anyway I hope that these Ideas gave you something to work with.

There are a few things you can do to improve the quality of your sleep. First off, exercising regularly can help. Also, your diet can effect your sleep. Eating high fat, starchy foods, or consuming products that contain caffeine, especially shortly before you go to bed, can effect your sleep. High stress levels, noise, being too hot or too cold can also reduce your sleep. Try to exercise, eat a light dinner, and get as comfortable as you can in bed. If you still are having trouble after a week or so, consult your family doctor. You may need a sedative to help you sleep such as Ambien, Ambien CR, or Lunesta to name a few drugs. from, Jill, R.N.

Try to empty your mind from the stresses of life, darken the room, get a comfortable mattress, or make love to your partner.

If you're alone hold your pillow alongside you, as though it were your lover, instead of laying your head on it.
