Here is a link with all immigration laws since the 1700s.
You be the judge.

P.S. If they came before 1790, there was no immigration law to break:all newcomers were made citizens as soon as they set foot here...

No my ancestors didn't break the law, when they left Italy because of the war, to go to Brazil, but I am pretty sure the raise hates against others is considered a crime in the most civilized countries and societies in the world.
Don't judge people by your own people. Isn't because your come or is part of criminal family, that others are too.
By the way I didn't see any link.
Now, tell me something because I am getting curious...Since you have been posted this type of questions for while...immigrant from what country, did you loose your job or partner, over all your English skills, citizenship documentation and finally this adorable number of IQ you have?

No, my ancestors didn't break the law. My early ancestors were here before it was a country. My latest ancestors came in response to a governmental offer of free land if they would come and farm it. That is when we needed more immigrants than were coming. The government was acting it its own selfish interests, and it happened to also be in the interest of my ancestors.

Even my latest ancestors also set aside land for and built their own schools and churches along with their neighbors. No one subsidized their education or health care, as we do for poor immigrants now.

Plus the cumulative effect of immigration over the years puts us in a very different place with regards to what is in the best interest of the country than we were in then.

Other countries, including probably yours, make immigration laws to suit them. Why should it be worse when we do so?

Don't confuse our ancestors with yours. No, we did not break any laws. They were honest, they didn't come over here and have 8 different IDs in their pocket. They didn't have to run from immigration authorities. They didn't fly a joke of a flag from another country. They assimilated. They learned English. They didn't have a false sense of entitlement the way illegal Mexicans do. They didn't insult people who were already here. That is my Italian side. The other side is NATIVE AMERICAN, not south American border jumper like Mexicans mindlessly think of as Native American. (lmao) My ancestors were Cherokee, true Natives of America. I'm safe on your question. Any more brain busters?

Whew. I am so safe on your question. Thank goodness. Anyway, the laws as they pertain today, the present, are in fact that if you come to America illegally, you are a felon. No recent changes have been made to that fact. Yes to legal immigrants and NO to illegal immigrants.
