I'm a christian, but I fail to understand why the majority of us are so self-involved that we ignore the problem of poverty and speaking against it. Why don't we admit that this country has failed to work on peverty inside it's borders. Why Republican or Democrat, do we not make that a top priority? Is a child starving less important than banning abortion? It's sad to know that this is y country.

Those who chose to ignore it are not following the Christian faith. And most of us do not ignore it.

Your answer is "when you go on a trip you pack whatever you need to care for your needs, right. That means you have taken the time to prioritize your individual needs, sorta like, 5 lamps of oil, hmmm ring a bell. The others that forget to work at prioritizing in their life find poverty. The sad thing is, some folks are born into a lifestyle where their parents live sinful lives and raise their kids to be slothful gluttons. Its not a perfect world. To really help the problem, you must pack and plan for those you want to help. Have a nice journey."

Everybody has different burdens to bear for humanity in different ways. If we all focused on the poor, nobody would help the drug addicts, or the rape victims, or the sick, etc.

The bible says we will always have the poor with us, however, there are many good organizations out there doing a wonderful job caring for those in difficulty. Since this is important to you, do what you can to make their lives easier and let the others work on what God has in front of them.

Poverty is a curse. As far as needs being met, seek first he Kingdom of God and all these things will be added +++++ unto you. God is the God of more than enough with plenty left over. Just realize there are promises in the bible. Promises of deliverance from poverty also.

Quit judging others and seek God on how you can help. You might have a special calling or ministry in this area. Part of being a Christian is walking in forgiveness. Remember that God forgave & forgot you of your sins.

You know that all that poverty commercials in other countries are political issues. The government of that country gets a percentage of all the money collected and sen to to this children, in this country unfortunately you are correct. they do not care about it since they can cash out, same as child adoption, why you think people will go tho china to adopt, because it is cheaper and easier, here in the USA it is almost impossible and too expensive to adopt a child, so tell me politics will be politics, and not even one single church would do anything about it, they will keep sending missionaries to other countries instead of doing it here.....life is tuff, and children suffer the consequences....sorry had to say something....

Maybe because we know that there will be no permanent solution to poverty until Jesus comes again.

Matthew 26:10 When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me. 11 For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always.

That doesn't mean that we aren't called to be charitable. It just means that we aren't called to engage in a so called "war on poverty". Each of us must seek the Lord's will for our own personal life. Not everyone is called to be a Mother Theresa you know.

Since you seem to have a burden on your heart for the poor, perhaps that's a sign to you that this is the area the Lord is calling you to shine his light into in this world. Just like we can't all be Pastors, neither can we all be missionaries to the poor.

There's many Christians who are doing alot to fight against poverty. But not everyone is Christian, and therefore not everyone sees a need to fight poverty. But why does someone have to be religious to help others who are suffering from poverty?

Personal responsibility involves taking personal action; like donating your own time and money.

Speaking out and getting politically active is a way to get OTHER people to do your bidding for you. It's a pathetic use of force against other people to make them do your bidding rather than putting your money where your mouth is.

Yes, we have to make some changes. But sometimes things are like the way it is because God raises people up. Thats how some people get their faith and know that God is real.

I believe that saving a child's life is just as important. Why do we continue to go to other countries and feed them when we let our children here in the States starve, get beat, and molested. We close our eyes to these injustices and look in the mirror and protect ourselves and no one else. "Got to get mine before you get yours" is the saying now.
