I’m 5’9 and female, I’ve been dieting for a few weeks now and lost 7 pounds thus far. I’m not getting discouraged and I know things won’t change over night. I started at 225 and plan on getting down to around 150. I just want to know how much I have to lose before I feel thinner? Or how many pounds do I have to lose to go down a pants/bra size size?

I'm 5'10" and can carry 20 pounds up or down without anyone really noticing a difference in my appearance. In my case, 20 pounds equals 1 inch off the chest, 1 off the waist and 1 off the hips. Your body might work differently though. The people that I've seen a dramatic change in, all went down between 40-50 pounds.

If you keep up your exercises, you will feel thinner though because your muscles will tighten and replace the fat, so your shape will change.

If you're excercising too you are also gaining muscle at first. Don't get discouraged. It takes time. The best way to lose weight is slowly. That way the chances of gaining it back is less likely. People who lose weight fast gain it back (and more) much sooner. Change your eating habits and make a more reasonable goal for yourself. Depending on your body structure perhaps 175 lbs. is the ideal weight you want to be at. I'm 5'7" and I weigh 175 lbs. and I'm a size 10. How is that possible? Because I'm densely big boned. I'm always told to get on the scale to be weighed again because people cannot believe it. (I would look horrible if I went down to my "ideal" weight of 145 lbs.!) Besides, you want to look healthy not skeleton-like. The media puts alot of pressure on women, and it's time we take charge of our own bodies. Once you recognize your bad eating habits and realize what you have to do to change it, you're on your way to a healthier body. Example: Every time you reach for food when you're not hungry you need to ask yourself why.
