Different herb require more time than others and for different effects. The most common way to steep tea is to bring the water to a boil and after it is boiling remove it from the source of heat. Pour some into a cup and put the tea bag in. You would do well to cover it with something and wait for the recommended amount of time. It is usually 20 min. for most teas but that is a long time if you are steeping licorice tea or ecanasia so read up to be sure.

Do you wonder why your ice tea is bitter, cloudy, has rainbows, and doesn't taste very good in a couple of days?
It's because you've boiled it.
To make perfect ice tea that will never be cloudy or have rainbows and will taste delightfully fresh for over a week, never, never, let the water reach a boil.
Heat the water just to the point where it burns your finger, remove from the stove and put in the tea bags. Let it steep for about 20 minutes, remove the bags, let cool to room temperature, pour into a pitcher, add more cold water if needed, and place in the refrigerator.
There's your perfect ice tea!

What kind of tea are you steeping? Different teas have different delicate tastes. And some teas are more delicate than others such as green tea or white tea. Some teas do not require boiling water just hot water. Check out the second site (which I prefer) but I gave two for you to decide. It also gives you charts on to how much water should be used and how long the tea should be infused (steep).

The best I know how to steep tea is to bring your water to a boil, throw in the tea bags and cover. Let it sit in the pain until it cools a little. Pour the tea mixture into a large pitcher and then add cold water depending on how strong you want your tea to be. Do not squeeze the tea bags ....... it seems to make the tea look cloudy and have a bitter taste.

Tea bags work just fine, if you're using loose tea leaves, make sure they're clean and dry, and use a fine strainer like wire mesh. Use boiling water and let the tea steep for 3 minutes for weak tea, five minutes for strong tea.

3 mins for tea powder 5 mins for tea leaves. Remember to put hot water in the pot for about 3 mins, pour out and add hot water again before you add the tea. also to add one extra spoon of tea for the pot.
