A clean title means that the seller owns the car free and clear, there's no money owed on it.

Clean: means that A)there has never been damage $ over the amount that your state requires to be reported, say anything over 2500 in SD but it may be 3000 in another. B)not all cars are reported to Carfax, so don't hold too much in that. C)repair people can do a job that would run you and I $5000 for just the price of parts say $2000. This means that the car could have been in a major accident but since the body tech did not pay labor it fell under the amount that must be reported. Your best bet is to have it looked at by a Pro and look for any work done. "buyer be ware" is your best defense.
ps: a clear title means no money owed.

No back fees, currently registered or on planned non op, and doesn't have a salvage title. You can check all of this with your local DMV or ask for a "Car Facts Report" this is a car history report. Cost about $30.
Hope this helps & good luck.

It means that it hasn't been in a major accident that was reported, you should still check out it's accident history at a place like carfax.com
