Probably as good a chance as through other mediums. People of all sorts inhabit every imaginable milieu.
The Internet works for me because I'm good with words and with expressing myself in writing.
What are you good with? What environments let you put your best foot forward, so to speak? Sports, the beach, volunteerism? Internet communities?
Think about the sorts of things that interest you, and go there. Worse comes to worse, at least the people you'll meet there will have a common interest with you.
Have fun and good luck,
Rex

My single friends who have done online dating say it's pretty much the same guys over and over all looking to hook but not looking for serious committment....
that said, one friend did end up marrying a guy she met on some chat room for marines.... he's about 8 years younger than her... and she already caught him "cheating" online....
I'd skip the whole thing and look to have the most decent friends / friends of family, etc set you up with who they think is a "very nice boy" -- these always seemed at first to be the nerdiest guys at first for all of my friends, but then turned out to be the most amazing boyfriends / husbands / and dads....
who would think that the guy your parent's neighbor set you up with, or your grandma's hairdresser, would end to be awesome -- but I swear, this is how most of my friends found their guys (these guys also are not the type trolling on the Internet, in bars, etc -- they are playing sports with their friends, visiting their parents, helping the parent's neighbor move, running an errand for the grandma, etc, etc so they ARE hard to find....)
good luck and keep your head high, you'll find the high-class guys that way, not with your head buried in a keyboard :)

Low. I suggest you go on fun blind dates, and get out more! People can lie on the internet, and although they can in real life it's a much lower chance of meeting a nice person.

It is happening more and more. Be more careful and be slow to believe what people tell you. It is easier to fool people on the Internet. Some people all over the world get their kicks by seeing if they can get people to fall in love with them. Some people actually have bets to see who can have the most online relationships going at the same time.
