from them and put them in a foster home? If the parents didn't want that to happen they could be given the option of going back to their homeland. I wouldn't like to separate families, however if they thought that could be a possibility, they'd be looking for passage back to the country they give their allegience to. If it were me and my kids I'd be travelling south and FAST. If an American woman deliberately put her child in danger they would take HER children.

sqwirlbrain- nobody SAID "take them away from their parents". Some of you get WAAAY off track!! I "SAID" 'couldn't'(?) DFCS take them OR give them the opportunity to 'head south'. Given the CHOICE most would go back home.
Haleylov- You said it simply, they should ALL go back!!

Well said, I have often thought about the dangers of children crossing the border with strangers. The only argument you get back is that they need to feed their families. They should stay in their home countries and demand that their countries give them a working and living wage and stop coming to America for the alleged jobs Americans won't do....Great question you asked.

DFCS will not take children our of a home unless their is abuse to the children.
I have worked with kids in these Foster homes when they are taken out.
If a child is an Orphan they maybe taken to a home.
This is not usually a good life for most (the majority). Giving a choice the parents are very foolish to leave their children here. Very foolish. The child may come back if he was born here .
The parent should take the child home with them.
And I do believe that just because you have a child here-that is no reason for you too stay too.
Blunt--you are so wrong-you have no idea what happens too most in the system--none. I could tell you true stories till the end of your life time. If a parent leaves them---that is very wrong.
And just for the facts those who have been doing it-it is usually for selfish reasons in almost all cases.

I agree that it would be a very good reason for DFCS to take their children, but I think they would be very reluctant to do so, based on the parents endangering their child's life by crossing the border, and also because Human Rights lawyers would jump in quickly and would probably win the case. Most other countries do not have as strong human rights laws as the USA has and so illegal immigrants learn quickly about these things and they take full advantage. Far worse things happen in other countries than the government taking children from parents for endangering the lives of their children, but no one challenges these things in those countries because they don't have the protective laws that the US has. Don't get me wrong, I am happy that the US is so forward thinking in this way, but I hate when I see people take advantage for their own benefit.

First of all, immigrants or non-immigrants that are here illegally are usually out of status, they overstayed some sort of visa or they entered the country without inspection.Being an illegal immigrant has not yet been made a criminal offense it is still a civil offense that is treated like a criminal one if your caught. alot of the time an illegal alien is charged with a criminal offense and is put in detention and depending on charges will do jail time for that offense, when jail time is served or they are paroled and are here either illegally or now because have been charged with an aggrivated felony violates their status and can be deported even if they are here legally immigration puts detainers on them.
once they served their time for the criminal charges and are released they go right into immigration detention. the department of homeland and security already has what they call an immigration detainer on them while they are fullfilling their criminal detention or they posted bail or let out on their own recognence immigration is ready to take over.
dfcs has enough problems with taking care of the american children who are in abuse situations, etc and have very limited places to put them, foster care and childrens homes are limited, never mind taking kids from their parents because their here illegally. also again, cicumstances apply, and as long as they have not committed any criminal acts and have not come in on our visa waiver programs, there are tons of waivers and permenant residency and citizenship grounds to apply for.
the longer you stay in our country illegal the better of your case is if you are caught. someone who's been here 3 years illegally does not have as much rights and waivers as someone who's been here 7 years illegally. The longer you can stay in our country and not get caught, the better your civil rights are and your less probable to be deported.

I think you assume that most parents would pick their children over getting to stay here. I can tell you that I see plenty of parents on a daily basis at my work who pick a number of things over their children everyday - drugs, boyfriends, you name it. In addition, the state is not looking to take anymore children into their custody than absolutely necessary (meaning only in desperate situations where the parents cannot or will not protect the child from further maltreatment). There aren't enough foster homes or facilities for these children. In addition, most states have initiatives for keeping the children with family, placing them with relatives. What you are proposing would do a great disservice to the citizens of our country, our children, and the illegal aliens and their chidren. Nobody wins.

Well, caucasians weren't originated here, were they? Should indians have taken their children away?
They certainly wouldn't have, because they didn't have a problem with sharing land, if when they WERE the owners. They knew that even though these children were not safe with their parents, they could not have lived a real life apart from them. Indians were respectful and knew to mind their own business even when caucasians kept getting "too involved". Well, the fact that they began to be wiped out kinda set them up, and that's why they attacked caucasians, but they were not xenophobes in the first place.
What's YOUR excuse? I don't think you're being wiped out at all.

It depends; if their children were born in the US, even if the parents are illegal, the children are US citizens. I've encountered on many ocassions when INS deported mothers and fathers alike but left children here in the care of a relative that was legal.
On the other hand, with taxes the way they are, why should we pay for their foster care as well?

Two wrongs don.t make a right. We should keep this between the adults. DFCS/CPS would only complicate more an already complicated issue. Be the peace. Be the change.

WOOHOO.....HALLELUJAH................................
you have just figured out the answer to the immigration crisis. Take their children away, put the children in foster homes and say "so there".
Screw the children......or better yet.....screw the foster care system that can hardly handle the load it has now....let alone the load you want to dump on them.
When does a situation get so bad that you are forced to choose between your children and a better life?
Oh I remember.....they used to separate them ALONG time ago....in camps. Men and boys in one and woman and children in the other. Guess what happened next?
