and knock on their door to ask them to do something about the dog? Even though it's past midnight?

The dog is INSIDE their house, btw... I can't imagine that they can sleep with it barking it's little head off!

The best thing to do is to leave them a note. Briefly describe why you are writing them and let them know that you would appreciate it if they keep their dog silent while you and their other neighbors are sleeping.

I am assuming that this is not a neighbor you know well.

If the opportunity presented itself, I would mention it to them sometime out in the yard. This should be less confrontational than a knock on the door after midnight.

Another option is to leave a note on their car. I say on their car, because a next door neighbor would probably put it on their door.

Lastly, if none of this sounds right, then I would call the police during the day and see what they would do if you called at night.
They may go over sometime during the day and just tell the people that they have had complaints from people in the community.

It is, or should be depending on where you live, a violation of the noise by-law. You are entitled to a resonable amount of peace and quiet at night.

Hope you get the right answer.

You just added the part about the dog being INSIDE.
Thats nuts.
Are they even home?
Have you seen people during 'normal' hours?
If not, could be a grow op with a gaurd dog.

don't knock on the door then.

Hmmmm, lachicadecafe, I would call the noise control division of the police department and they will pay them "a social call". When people in my apartment house have done that for the adjoining apartment house, the police did not reveal who called them - just that they had received a complaint about the dog barking. (I would keep a note of how many nights running this has happened.)

Maybe they "tune out" their dog's barking or think he's just protecting them; maybe they're in the middle of a fight or drinking. I think there are too many variables and it's dicey to go over there. Be well. You deserve your sleep.

I think you should go over during the day and speak with them about the problem. Try that first and then if that does not work call them if you have their number when the dog is going crazy. They do need to be respectful of neighbors and getting a good nights sleep. I think if you showed up at there door after mid-night it might alarm them.

It might not be the best thing if you are not aquainted with them, however I would definatly either send them a friendly letter or make it a point to let them know during the day that their dog is keeping you up at night. If they respond kindly, end of problem, but if they respond like they won't do anything about it, look into the laws in your area and again send them a letter stating if they do not quiet their dog down, you will have to report them to a higher authority. No one wants to make enemies with their neighbors, but you also have a right to sleep at night.

A dog should be trained on how to eat, walk with you, not to bark, potty training and sleep on its place etc. You can teach anything to your puppy, dogs get trained easily with some good instructions. If you want some good training tips visit https://tr.im/8mL4l

If properly trained, they should also understand whistle and gesture equivalents for all the relevant commands, e.g. short whistle or finger raised sit, long whistle or flat hand lay down, and so on.

It's important that they also get gestures and whistles as voice may not be sufficient over long distances and under certain circumstances.

No not at all. Do it or call the rspca or the police.
OR through over a piece of meat with one or two painkillers in it.
What i do, i have the same problem, but mine is a yappy dog. So when it barks i squirt it with the house and it shuts up quick smart. good luck.

yes you should tell your neighbors and if you get no responce you can call the cops or animal control the dog warden and they will sight your neighbors for their animal for being loud it is against the law for a dog to bark all night long their is a web sight you can go to to get the helpful info about questions like this go to www.canismajor.com/dog/ohlaws.html or you can look up Ohio Revised codes for the county or city you live in for your rights about things like this. Let me know if this was or wasn't helpful.

Good Luck!

I don't think so I sometimes forget my dog is outside. I am prone to his barking where it doesn't bother me any more, So to be reminded would be a refreshing change instead of having the police do it and I get a ticket. Plus they are keeping you up so let them know that.

I'm sure they would be banging on your door if it were your dog barking. There is a noise ordinance. I got in trouble once for blowing my horn goodnight to my children at 10:00 p.m. I use to work the night shift.

The best thing to do is make an annonymous call the the police, and have them handle the sitution. If you go there, the neighbor will know it is you and that will start bad blood between you two.
