My mother was diagnosed with liver cancer and she died from it. It was not found right away because the doctor she went to kept saying she had bronchitis (because of her cough).
She went to Loyola Hospital in Chicago (after I found her a good doctor that got the right diagnosis!) and they were going to operate to remove one lobe of her liver. If we would have gotten the right diagnosis in the beginning the doctor there could have done that; however, it had spread to the hepatic vein. She had to undergo chemo to see if the cancer would recede, but it didn't so she couldn't have the surgery.
This type of cancer spreads rapidly. She was not in much pain though. As far as I know, there still are no cures for it.
I hope if you have it or someone you know that you got an early diagnosis of it and please move on it quickly if you are looking to have surgery to remove it!
Blessing and prayers to you!

There are many clinical trials ongoing at this time for liver cancer. The son-in-law of a friend was diagnosed with advanced (stage 4) liver cancer in 2004.
He is in his early 30's. He was accepted into a trial at the University of Wisconsin, Madison and has done quite well.
His cancer had metastasized (spread to other organs) and recent scans show that the tumors have all shrunk a small amount. That is very good news.
If you or someone you know have liver cancer ask your oncologist about any clinical trials you might qualify for.
Good luck!

It is dependent on the location and development. The appropraite treatment has likely been suggested by the doctor. I do recall that if early enough, liver transplantation can be an option. Unfortunately as with cancer, a cure is not here yet.

yes, if the cancer is isolated in one lobe or area, the effected area can be removed then treated with chemo and/or irradiation, liver cancer ishard to treat and has poor prognosis. there is no "cure" yet for most forms of cancer, but there are a few treatment centers that have a better remission rate than others, if you can afford it.. Most of us just get onto a good hospice and wait to die

It is almost always fatal. A liver transplant is a possible treatment.
