There are three areas you need to treat. 1) The cat - Buy Advantage or Frontline Plus from your local vet. It is over the counter so your vet shouldn't need to do an exam on the cat or anything to sell it to you. Frontline Plus is great (better than the old Frontline Top Spot) because it will kill an extra life cycle of the flea. DON'T BUY HARTZ DROPS FROM THE SUPERMARKET. I've seen cats die after the owner's used this on them. 2) The house - Wash every linen/bedding where the cat may go in hot water and/or bleach. If you have carpet, buy the flea powder for your carpet that you vacuum up. You should sprinkle it down and vacuum it up once a week for 3 weeks. This will make sure that you get the fleas during all life cycles as it takes three weeks for the eggs to hatch. If you only do it once then more fleas will hatch in the following weeks. Be sure to throw away the vacuum bags after each vacuuming so any eggs that you happened to suck up don't hatch in there. Some people find that powdered Borax (found in the laundry aisle of the supermarket) works well for this. 3) Treat your yard. Even if you have an indoor only cat, if the fleas are living in your yard, they will jump on you and get back into your house. Local hardware stores sell do-it-yourself treatments or you can hire a professional. For some extra protection, a home remedy that I have found to work is putting Brewers Yeast in your cat's food. It sounds crazy, but there's something in it that fleas don't like if they land on your pet. And most pets love the taste of it in their food. You only need a little bit everyday but this will give you and your cat some added protection during these summer months. Good luck with the creepy crawly situation!

We had the same problem a few years ago when we had dogs inside our house...We also tried the sprays,Flea foggers and nothing got rid of them..But We heard about Seven Dust. You can get it at wal-mart..It's a powder...We sprinkled it on our carpets, around the base boards, We even put some on the furniture....We stayed out of the house for a few days..It doesn't smell very well....It took a while to clean it all up..but it got rid of all the fleas....Also sprinkle some around the door entrances and sprinkle it on the lawn .

You can TRY to boil eucalyptus cough drops and pour the mixture into a spray bottle, but flea sprays work better. Look it up. I boiled about 10 in a medium sized saucepan for about a week straight one February. I guess they don't like the smell or something. And you can spray it on your pet. It's not sticky, just smelly.

My husband bought 10 pounds of salt and poured it all over the house. We let it set in there for 2 days and then cleaned it up, the fleas were gone.

Try putting a bowl of soapy water in several places where the fleas are at their worst. You will be surprised at how many fleas will be in the bowls in just a few hours. It Works

Fleas are a major pain in the butt. Make an appointment for your cat at a groomers. While the cat is at the groomers bomb your house. And if your cat goes outside then sprinkle your yard with some sevin dust(you can get it at target,wal-mart,etc.) GOOD LUCK

so, once you have done the cat, you can buy this product from the supermarket..its like a powder, you put in on your matress, couch, carpet, anywhere that it could have spread. ie; where your cat lies and sleeps. etc. wash your sheets regularly and there some products at the chemist which will help you rid fleas as well.
