It depends on how old they are and what you are doing during the day. I let my kids stay up later if they can sleep in the next morning. If your kids are waking up happy and able to behave than you're doing just fine. They will let you know if you're letting them stay up too late.

I let my eight year old stay up as long as she wants as long as the tv stays on the disney channel, listens to her cd's only, will not answer the phone or door, will not do any midnight eating, and some other rules. I trust her to do the right thing. Not all parents can. If we have something to do the next day, then she will go to bed at a decent hour. My other two youngest sons which are 4 and 1 go to bed by 9. I will adjust her schedule probably a couple of weeks before school starts.

Probably not much later than you let them stay up during the school year. Kids need a lot more sleep than what they are getting these days. They need time for their brains to process all the things that happen during the day and I think more kids are getting depression (in part) because of sleep deprivation. We live in a high-tech world and there is a lot going on. Your kids may moan and groan about bedtime but they will thank you later with better attitudes and moods during the day.

My kids are 8 and 10 and we play it by ear, as long as they are good I will let them stay up until midnight, if they act tired, they go to bed earlier. They also get to sleep in as late as they want, and take a nap if they need it.

We start adjusting back for school 1-3 weeks before school starts in the fall.

That depends on several things:

1. How old are your kids?

2. What time do they have to get up in the mornings?

3. What is your schedule and is someone able to stay up to supervise them?

4. What is your policy on naps if someone starts to get an attitude?

Once you answer those questions you can probably figure it out for yourself.

My rule of thumb was when it got dark. when I was a kid I had to go to bed in the summer time when it was still day light out and I could hear all the other kids still outside playing and I would get so mad. So I always told myself I would never do that to my kids.

if i were u i would let my kids stay up till 10:00 and if they can't get up without being irritable in the morning then yeah it is okay.if they have to get up at 7:00 or 8:00 in the morning i would not let them stay up after 9:30.

As long as you want. I don't think summers are a time for strick schedules and stuff like that. I wouldn't let them stay up all night but let them stay up later. They are on vacation...time for a break.
