Truth be told, this would also work for a gent if neccessary although a man usually would want a bra that flattens and binds rather than one that lifts and separates and supports. But for anyone who really wants to know how to measure the right size, this is the system I find the best although it is not accurate for all.
To find your correct bra size, begin by wearing your best fitting bra - unpadded, and not a minimizer or sports bra if you have a bra. If possible, have someone other than yourself take the measurements. Not only is it faster, it also tends to be more accurate.
Measure the band size by placing the tape measure just under your bust at the front and making sure the tape is completely flat against your body all the way around and hasn't dropped at the back. Pull the tape measure fairly tight to make sure you have an accurate measurement. Round out the number to the closest number..i.e. if the number is under 1/2 inch leave the number rounded down. If the number is greater than 1/2 inch, round up to the next number. If the rounded measurement you come up with is an even number, add 4 inches. If the rounded measurement you come up with is an odd number, add 5 inches.
If you don't understand this, you do not have sufficient brain cells to deserve a bra.

To obtain the cup size measure across the fullest part of your breasts at the front making sure the tape measure is a little loose. Now, subtract your band size measurement from this second measurement. The difference is your cup size. use the chart which I got from:
http://www.herroom.com/lingerie-sizing-bras.aspx
Difference Standard Cup Size
0"-1/2" (1.3 cm) AA
1/2"- 1" (2.6 cm) A
2" (5.1 cm) B
3" (7.6 cm) C
4" (10.2 cm) D
5" (12.7 cm) DD or E
6" (15.2 cm) DDD or F
7" (17.8 cm) G
8" (20.3 cm) H
9" (22.9 cm) I
10" (25.4 cm) J
Once you get into the D cup sizes and larger, there tends to be a discrepancy among brands as to what to call sizes beyond a D cup.

Example: first measurement is 29 inches – that’s an odd number, so you add 5 and the bra measurement is therefore 34 inches. The 2nd (full bust) measurement is 37 inches, therefore the sum is 37-34, which gives a difference of 3 inches. This is a D cup. 3. You must remember however, that all manufacturers do not make their products in the same way, therefore it is advisable to try on the bra before you buy, as you might find your size varies slightly from shop to shop. 4. A properly fitting bra should not dig into your body, if this is the case try going down a size eg. 36 inches to 34 inches. Similarly if the bra rides up at the back. If there are any bulges over or at the side of the bra, it is likey that your cup size is too small, so try the next one up. 5. A well fitting bra is firm but does not make red marks on your shoulders or ribcage, and your breasts should not bulge over the cups but be smoothly enclosed.

To get the number size (band size), measure around your rib cage, just below your breasts, and then add five inches to this number. If this is an odd number, round up to the higher even number. For example, if you measure 30 inches, add five inches to that, and you get 35 inches. Round up to 36 inches, and this is your band size.

To get your cup size, measure across the fullest part of your breasts (usually across your nipples) and around your back. Subtract your band size from this number. The number that's left over determines your cup size. If it's zero, you are a double-A cup. One inch is an A, two inches is a B, three inches is a C, four inches is a D, and so on. For example, if your band size is a 36, and you measure 39 inches around the fullest part of your breasts, then your bra size is 36C.

I still thing that for a bra for a man he should get a sports bra because it is less feminine and just holds everything in place and squishes it in place too. I hate my bras mainly because of the uncomfortable underwire and the hooks on back but my sportsbras don't have these irritations.

The best I found was to look at the label...if you know the girl pretty well ...you can always ask her.

Well, from the look of your picture, you're the one with the problem.

This sounds like the typical 'not me, my friend'..........
