u might have a piece of food that got under there. try to dental floss this might also pop the abscess ....rinse after wards with warm water mixed with hydrogen peroxide. do this twice a day at least. If you have post and crown that means u all ready have had a root canal. Tell your dentist your financial predicament and ask him if the crown can be saved and reused. Good luck i have been there many times.

i would guess that they would have to remove the crown and do a root canal in order to save the tooth... by the time they do a root canal and re-crown a tooth it can get quite expencive, i personally would just let it go, but i am a cheap bastard and 800 dollars or more is not worth saving a tooth to me. A dentist would likely give you a good answer and an estimate, though they would downplay the possibility of removal, they dont make much on a removal and will never make money off that tooth again if it's gone. Either way a dentist is a good bet just to get out of the pain an abcess can cause, unless you just want to go to a vetrinary supply store and buy some antibiotics to kill the bacteria in the abcess and get along for a while before it comes back rofl

If the crown does not have a post in it and depending on the condition of the tooth, it may be possible to perform root canal treatment through te crown without removing it. This would allow you to keep the crown and simply have the tooth filled

You'll probably lose the crown. A dentist could tell for sure after taking a look.
