My son is 5 yrs old and still has accidents during the day. He just doesn't want to take time out to go to the bathroom. What can I do to encourage him. He starts school in the fall and I don't want kids to make fun of him. (SERIOUS ANSWER ONLY!!)

Boys usally take longer to potty-train than girls. My brother is 8 and still wets the bed at night, but I was completely trained by 2. What really helped my brother for the daytime was a combination of rewards and reminders. Give him a reward (something small like a sticker or a spoonful of honey should be fine) and rimind him a lot to "check and see." Good luck.

The experts will tell you to don't press the issue. Make it a non -issue and just let him go around in wet pants. He will not be a grown up and do this. Poddy training can really mess up a kid I hear if not done right from multiple child psychology books. When he gets around other kids who don't pee pee in school it will probably stop. At 16 months most kids are able to control the bladder. You probably have asked your doctor about possible medical problems so we will just go with what you said about not wanting to take the time out to pee.
So best advice is to just ignore the wet pants and let him change his own pants. If it is attention he is after he will see he no longer gets it. And then there is the reward system. If you want to try money (or some reward he would like) for each hour of dry pants. This could take about a day but do it when you can be there to monitor and reward him. Good luck mom!

Try the reward system, maybe a little sticker everytime he goes, or 'awesomely cool' underwear he can wear as a reward for having an accident free day. Also, he might be waiting until the last minute to go, being involved in another activity. Remind him by asking every 2 hours and ask the teacher if necessary still then, to do the same thing. Teachers understand accidents still take place at this age. Hope this helps :)

OK. he still a baby, you can put on some pampers, when he get older he's going to encourage himself. I have a cousin and he was 12 and still having accidents during the night and some day he woke up and there wasn't pee pee, so keep telling him, but don't force him to stop because is not his fault. Good Luck!!!

He may have a problem with his penis. My son had the same problem at the same age .He was in kindergarten and he kept having accidents,I finally took him to an Urologist who said that the pee hole was too narrow. He had a small outpatient procedure and has been fine ever since. You should rule out any medical problems b4 continuing to encourage him.You could be setting him up for failure if it's a medical problem.

Reward him when he goes to the toliet. Set up a chart and get little stickers every time he goes to the toliet he gets a sticker for his chart and mark lines on it (say after 4 stickers then after 8 sticker and so on) and tell him when he reaches a the line with his stickers he can have lets say a treat for the first one, then a toy for the second then take him to his fav place for the third and so on.
this help for my cousin and for my friends child hope it works for you.

Maybe you could tell him, "Son, if you are able to not pee on yourself all day, then I will give you a _____ at the end of the day"
And insert something that he likes. It will give him an insentive to try, at least!

I like churppy's answer about the cereal in the toilet. I used making bubbles and it worked too.

we put cheerios in the toilet and let my son aim at them. He loved it and thought it was a game, so he looked forward to going potty. you could also use fruit loops
