You are asking this question from 2 Peter Chapter 3:3-4;
Knowing this that there shall come in the last days scoffers (false teachers) walking after their own lusts,
and saying, Where is the promise of His coming? for since the fathers felled asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

We are in the last days; People today are laughing, joking, and being sarcastic at the sayings, Jesus is coming again. So they will say "Where is He, when is he coming, they have heard this since the time of their old ancestors who are now asleep (dead) and nothing has changed everything still continues just as it always has from the beginning of the world.

These are foolish people that the devil has blinded; as he blinded and fool them in the days of Noah. They too laughed and mocked God not taking His word seriously.

Matthew 24:36-39;
But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.

But as the days of Noe (Noah) were, so shall also the coming of the Son of Man be. (Jesus Christ).

For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe (Noah) entered into the ark.

And knew not until the floof came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of Man be.

Verse 44 also says;
Therefore be ye also ready; for in such an hour as you think not the Son of Man cometh.

Just take a look around today men and women are doing the same thing as they did before the flood; eating, drinking, partying, marrying and giving into marriage, men are marrying men, women are marrying women. Lying, cheating, backbiting, backsliding, whoremonging and so forth. They think it's still all fun and games; but God says; Woe unto them! Behold I come and I come quickly in a day and hour that they thinketh not; and my reward is with me to pay all men according to thier deeds.

CL:

First of all, as another human being, I want you to know that I am sorry that you have had a rough life. No one deserves a bad life and I'm sorry yours has been less that what you deserve.
On the other hand, you may actually derive some degree of hope from the site that you quoted in the Bible found in 2Peter 3:4. The corresponding scripture may be found in Matthew 24: 37:44. What it says basically is that the people will be acting the same way in the Last Days before the Second Coming of Christ much like they acted before the Flood when Noah built the Ark. People did not believe that there was going to be a massive change because things had never changed before. That's really the way many folks are today. They act like life as we know it will continue on eternally, but it will not. There is hope because there is the promise of Christ's Coming and a wonderful change!

In the mean time, we can work to make this world a better place. We can have the last word regarding the horrible things that happen to us in life by trusting God for help to turn these circumstances around and make something beautiful and good from them.

This phrase comes from 2nd Pet. 3:3-4. The last days are talking about the end of time. There have always been those who have said the end was near & it hasn't happened yet! So scoffers say see things go on just like they always have! But there is coming a day when the end will come!! Read Mark 13; Matt. 24 & Luke 21. The difference is, the things that have happened in the past are going to happen more often in more places on a much bigger scale. The United States is going to have major drought much worse than its had so far. Their in the beginning of that right now. More major earthquakes are going to hit around the world & in the United States. The United States & a United Europe are going to become bitter enemies & a 10 nation United Europe is going to defeat the United States because God is going to use them to punish the U.S. because of their mounting sins. For more go to this website. Look at the booklets & ask for the United States & Britain in Prophecy. You'll be shocked!

maybe it's a hidden clue suggesting that the second coming, or rather the end-times will be over two thousand years after Christ?Or more?

Or maybe it's a piece of the pie mentioned in 2 Thess 2:3 "Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition."

Maybe people will say, " Where is his coming?" during the great falling away. I looked up Falling in The Strong's Concordence and it says that "Falling" in the Greek in 2 Thess 2:3 means apostacy - which means believer losing faith, turing their backs.

I believe that possibly, and I could change my mind later, that there is no pre-rapture, that a lot of people will be persuaded into taking the Mark-of-the-Beast because people will be saying that the thing that will be used as the mark isn't really the mark of the beast because the "rapture" didn't happen, people will say "Where is his coming?" so since they are expecting a pre-rapture, they will easily take the mark. I think it will be something very similar to the VeriChip, a subdermal implant microdevice. a.k.a RFID chip.

Before Christs birth, there were many who did not believe the prophesies of his coming either. There will always be scoffers who will say that "he is never coming". These are the same kind of people who said that God would not flood the earth in the day of Noah. People have an incredible ability to adapt. The signs of Christs coming as read in Revealations are becoming more obvious every day. But because people adapt and move on with their lives, they don't notice the changes. Think about major events such as 9/11, or last years hurricane Katrina. Katrina was just a year ago, but all ready people have moved on with their lives, paying no attention to a very BIG warning. The scriptures you were referring to were in 2 Peter 3, read Verse 10. It says "THE DAY OF THE LORD WILL COME AS A THIEF IN THE NIGHT." In other words, people in general, will not be expecting his coming. They will be going about their business, living life as normal, then suddenly He will come.

Is this from the 24th chapter of Matthew. It would be helpful if you put the book and chapter number. I don't recognize this verse at all I think it is your version. Is this one of the contemporary versions? Sometimes these are very helpful in getting the basic stories from the bible for new Christians but not that accurate if you really want to dig deeper.

There is something similar in Matt 24. I think it's the Lord saying again "No man knows the day or the hour" of His coming. I think God wants us to always be ready and vigilant, stay close to Him so that when the terrible day comes we will be on the right team.

Note on Your life: I'm 48 and been through a lot myself, drugs, divorce, troubled kids etc... I'm happier now than ever before and I lost my job in December! I've finally seen fruit from seeds planted years ago. And I am soooo in love with Jesus now that I can hardly stand it. He has taken care of us in this period of unemployment so that we could hardly tell financially that I make 1/2 the money I did at my old job. It is miraculous to me how He has sustained us! I don't think God is just nicer now, I think I am more tapped into the source of goodness! I am trusting more in His love!

I believe it shows that many will question His coming and maybe even Himself. We will want to seek Him out and see His coming, but some who shall ask this will not believe and wish to prove us wrong. It sort of seem like certain things are happening now, doesn't it? For years we ask ourselves the same question, some of us hoping to see it when He comes and some fearing for others, yet we know that He will come in time and not when we want Him to. We don't command Him, He commands us for we are His followers. Now remember that you asked for my opinion and that's all I am giving in the statements above. If there is fact in what I have said, then it was not intentional. I'm glad you have seen the light and have become a Christian, it shows that there are some people who can change in love of Christ. I am also sorry that you have had a hard life.

2 Peter 3:3-9
3.) First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come scoffing and following their own evil desires. 4.) They will say, "Where is this 'coming' he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation." 5.) But they deliberately forget that long ago by God's word the Heavens existed and the Earth was formed out of water by water. 6.) By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. 7.) By the same word the prestent Heavens and Earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men. 8.) But do not forget this one thing, my dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years is like a day. 9.) The Lord is not slow in keeping His romise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

Well, I guess I was right in parts of my opinion after all.

Bless you and all who believe!

As in the days of Noah, so shall the coming of the Son of God be. Before the flood, it had not rained upon the earth. There were no oceans or large bodies of water near where Noah was building the Ark. For hundreds of years he preached to the people of the coming flood and judgement of God. Yet no one accepted the truth. The same will be before the second coming of Christ. For thousands of years people have had the Bible and its truths, but many have chosen to follow their own beliefs and false religions. The best a person can do is follow the Bible teachings to the letter, believing in our Father in Heaven and putting off the things of this world that don't pertain to God and share our knowledge of Salvation with others, as did Noah.

You're right. In the 2nd letter of Peter chapter 3, starting in verse 3 Peter says, "in the last days there will come ridiculers, with their ridicule, proceeding according to their own desires, saying 'where is this promised presence of his?' These ridiculers would insist that things are the same as they've always been and nothing has changed. Jesus said that in the last days things would be just like they were in Noah's day when the people refused to take Noah and his family seriously. He said, "just as the days of Noah were, so the presence of the son of man will be, and they took no note until the flood came and swept them all away, so the presence of the son of man will be." Matt. 24:37-39 People today are taking no note of Jesus' presence. The apostle Paul wrote, "in the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here, men will be lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God." 2Tim 3:1-5 These things are all part of a composite sign of Jesus presence and that the end of this system of things is near. In the end times, which is now I believe, the people will say this literally as to mock believers. You are always hearing people say that Jesus' coming has been predicted many times and he hasn't come, that is why they think it myth. What they do not understand is that never before in history has conditions been so fitting. Ex: Israel becoming a Nation again in 1948, technology making it a fact that when the two witnesses come everyone will see them, via satellite, seeing Jesus on the Mt., again via satellite. That is just a few. All the wars, the pestilence, weather conditions, disbelief, all simultaneously happening.
