If they were all given citizenship, wouldn't that solve all the problems that so many people are complaining about?

They would have to pay taxes, they could get car and health insurance, and work their way out of the menial jobs they are stuck in now.

So, why not?

I don't think that's a bad idea...at least if they are legal they're stuck paying taxes for oil wars like us.

Why should we?

The problem is that this country cannot afford the further taxing of the system for those "citizens" who then would have access to EVERY benefit.

Not to mention, we would be rewarding those who broke the law. We would be penalizing those who actually immigrated the right way. And then there is the # 1 reason not to:
Without closing the borders tight, there would be another 2 million coming over to take their place once they became citizens and employers didn't want to pay them full wages.

You want me to consider amnesty for illegals, the first thing you have to do is figure out a way to make them stop coming. We were all promised there would be no more illegal immigration problem in the 80's under Reagan when his "road to citizenship" law was enacted - we are worse of now than then.

So, why should we?

Then all people will try to enter the US and want amnesty. People will protest why they get amnesty and they would have to pay taxes, but we're annoyed because many people came here the legal way and you're just giving citizenship away to some and ignoring others. Let's just say you're idea is kind of half-baked.

Yeah, keep believing that. I live in South Florida and these Cubans some hard workers, but others just lining up for the benefits (welfare, low income housing, food stamps, medicaid, and don't forget the already strained school budgets when they have to hire additional ESL teachers) and that is the free pass to receive it all on our dime. The second they touch the beach! Wet Foot Dry Foot Law Sucks!

So you want to reward people for not following the rules?

What are you going to tell all the people on the waiting list to become citizens? That since they followed the rules, they have to wait longer, while the others are citizens?

I just thought of a way to solve the prison overpopulation problem. We give everyone amnesty.

Doesn't solve the problems to our State programs that are in trouble now due to the strain. People will still need help (especially if they are making low wages) . Doesn't solve the Medical strain or Schools. Taxes wouldn't cover it. More people does not help it--just increases more strain..RATHER or not the people mean too. IT'S THE RESULTS
Where is that money going to come from? I doubt government is going to cut their pay-so maybe from our Disable program or SS -the old could live on less. Please it is not that simple.

Problem solved? Wow that was easy. You should be in congress as you would fit right in. Why don't we just keep our borders open and let everyone in? Are you proposing that Americans citizens continue pay the bill generated by illegal immigration?

they don't care about amnesty , they will never assimilate and begin paying taxes . If they have to pay taxes then there take home pay will be reduced and they will need a raise and so they will become more of the Americans who will not do the job for the pay and we will need more illegals to replace them and bam back to square one .

because you're stupid. They broke the law and certainly we are not about to reward them for their wrong doingS are we? No way! If that were the case, what kind of Example would America be for all of the other countries? that's why we have to make it hard to come here, not everyone can afford or have the priveledge to take advantage of America's freedom without a price.

Good argument, however, they broke the law. Legal immigrants deserve to be here first. Illegal immigrants need to go back to their countries. Why can't the countries they are fleeing from make a living wage for them? Why does America need to support those who entered our countries illegally? If I can't support a American citizen who broke the law, why should I be expected to support an illegal immigrant?

The problem is, we cannot just give these people citizenship because some of them came here to escape criminal prosecution in Mexico. I don't know about you, but I think it would be wise to know who we are dealing with first. I don't mind giving citizenship to law-abiding citizens, but I don't want to give it to pedaphiles and murderers.
