It can lead to hemorrage (sp) and other problems, but if it's monitored, it's really not that bad......or mine wasn't, I don't think. They stay kinda loopy for a year or so, off and on. I bled a lot, and had some pretty serious depression for several months, off & on. I would advise anyone looking to quit the dope "cold turkey" to find a 6 month inpatient program, if not a year-long one. It's HARD to stay off when it's become such a.........well, around here it becomes a way of life. It's hard to turn your back on the only thing you know.

I was a heavy meth user. I quit cold turkey. It was the hardest thing i ever had to do, but it was safe. To one of the other answers, methadone is for heroine users, not meth. Quiting any habit that one might have is good. Some people can do it on there own, others need help along the way. But it is however safer than using.

I quit smoking and selling weed, I quit smoking weed 8 times have I ever relapsed before? Yea but you learn from you're mistakes in order to quit for good relapse is all a part of quitting you need to make mistakes. I quit selling weed once and haven't relapsed I've smoked for 5 years and sold weed just as long, I have an addicting personality and I really enjoyed doing those things but I do miss it but I don't want to go back. It's hard but if you ever want to quit any bad habits it can be done, I've been sober since April, quit selling almost 2 years ago.

I'm not a doctor either, but cold turkey is the ONLY way. Just quit. It will be hard, you will become irritable, but, the individual has to make up their mind what they want for themselves. No counciling of any type can give them that. This lies in the individual. JUST QUIT NOW !
And even if it were dangerous, consider the alternatives. Not quitting is really bad. Drugs are for sick people. Quitting slowly is too tempting and inneffective.

Not safe. Any withdrawal causes symptoms some of which are very dangerous and even life threatening. You need to find a medical detox centre for the first few days - after that a supervised rehab centre. Good luck.

It is definitely not safe. If you know someone who is using and wants to stop. You need to take them to a doctor or a rehab clinic. They will need methadone to stop. Going completely without can cause major medical problems.
