I found many Islamic books claim that prophet Muhammed attempted sucide many times after the death of his wife (Khadija) and his spiritual friend (Waraka). This incident is mentioned in many books, including:
- History by Tabari
- Sahih Bukhary [6467]
- Musnad Ahmad [24768]

Is this true? did prophet Muhammed really attempt suicide?

I am so happy that you are finally talking logic. Well, let us see:
- first of all: the whole Hadeeth was not told by prophet Muhamemd but by Aysha (his child wife).
- second: The context of the Hadeeth is consistent as you can see from the link provided.
- third: please read verse [10:94], which was revealed at the same time period mentioned in that hadeeth. It reads: "If you are in doubt as to what We have revealed to you, then ask those who have been reading the Book from before (i.e., Jews and Christians)". This verse was revealed at time when prophet Muhammed was in doubt about his prophecy (after the death of his supporters), so god was comforting him.

a Muslim friend of mine has {sahih Bukhary}, I had a look at this hadith .actually this hadith ends without mentioning the alleged suicide attempt ,the rest of it was add by someone called Moamar, and the sentence where it is described wasn't said by the prophet.
I mean that the prophet didn't say that he tried to kill himself ,and some of those people who narrate these stories could have had misunderstandings .

do we have to believe everything that is mentioned in book?
no, some of them can be really corrupted.
this is why Muslims believe that Quran was the true word of God which was not corrupted , I think if this story was true it would have been mentioned in Quran, but it wasn't mentioned.
so this could be right or wrong, anyway in the end he didn't kill himself ,and that is the most important thing.

These are well respected books but many of the incidents are not well studied . There are many contradiction in there finding as well . There can be a possibility but when both of these died he was already declared prophet and it would be greatest sin to commit suicide . His prophet hood would have been taken back . So we can safely said that such an event was not poss able.

I'm not sure honey..i think u better consult people who has more knowledge about this matter..anyway, i doubt Prophet Muhammd want to kill himself, as he knows better that taking our own life is one of the biggest sin. Anyway i bet he had a depression and i did hear that he cried and having a greatest lost among all, as khadijah is his 1st and the one who always be beside him during his up and down.

to David_c well, Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. did marry aisyah (9years) however, have intimate relationship after she reached her puberty. Besides kids those time 100 times body and mentally more matured than our kids today..
